Out in less than a season.

Failed in less than a year. I replaced my old Rule float switch with this one (same model). I hooked up an Atwood 4202-7 backup float switch just in case. Thank god I did because after a recent very heavy downpour I found the rule wasn't working. Used less than one season. I don't think they make them like they used to.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Can't remember

Good block but crappy material

Installation was easy - nice that Rule designed the block so the float could be removed from the base for easy installation and cleaning if needed. Unfortunately the plastic is of poor quality and I'm sure it will become brittle and break after a few years. It amazes me that something so important to a boat (and human life) should be made from such poor materials.

Good switch. Pretty easy to install.

Works great. Be careful not to mix up the wires. They are the same color. But there is only one way to connect. The manual doesn't say which cable is which. Test before installing. Connect a gray cable to the battery. Then use a voltmeter to make sure the 12V supply is getting through. If there is no 12V, then vice versa. Swap the gray wires. Test again. One gray wire goes to the battery, the other to the pump. For me, the brown wire on the pump is positive. The black wire on the pump isโ€ฆ

11 months of service?

Installed a second bilge pump above the first and used this switch to install. It was never activated by the water level as the primary still governs everything. I check it manually by pulling the switch up before I set off and don't you know it wasn't working properly yesterday when I was getting the boat ready for Elsa's storm? I took it off and checked it with an ohmmeter and didn't find anything in either the open or closed position. Got another one but am very disappointed I only got 11โ€ฆ

Bad experiences require wise decisions

This device is top notch, at least that's my experience. Although I've had some issues recently when at the same time the 2000 GPH pump broke down within two months of use despite having a four year warranty. The Revain representative told me that I would need to contact the manufacturer as my Revain temporary warranty would only be for 30 days and I would need to contact the manufacturer from that point forward. (somewhere in China) I understand Revain's policy but to be honest I expected more

Pros
  • Best in Niche
Cons
  • Ease of Maintainability

RULE for bilge pumps and switches?

So my current switch is broken so I thought buy something cheaper? Switch "not branded"? Or "Standard" for what I've always thought was the rule (ha. got it.) for bilge pumps and bilge pump switches. RULE! Well developed, and the quality looked satisfactory! It looked like it was assembled quickly but the build quality was good. And the switch clearly says "Made in China"! Well, as much as I wish it was made in the USA/North America. I know quality depends on company standards and I HOPE Ruleโ€ฆ

Easy to connect and install, a game changer

My 1998 16" Lund is a true market leader. After about 4 hours the water started to rise to the bottom. This made me think about, from time to time, the turn the bilge pump on. Sometimes when I was busy doing something I forgot to create extra weight in the boat. I was usually reminded when the bow trolling motor came to the surface and was making a lot of noise. Setting this switch got rid of that taken from the equation. Now it turns on every half hour or so. I bypassed the switch it wasโ€ฆ
