Don't use the screws provided

There should be no reason for anyone to rate an item like this but the screws that came with the mount were complete crap. Most handrails are decent hardwood. The supplied screws break off the heads when they are screwed in with a hand or impact drill. throw her out I saved them and later broke the heads trying to use them on softer woods.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Not sure

Good mount - weak screws

The mounts have a nice finish and are lighter than expected. However, the small screws for the rail clip kept breaking off in the head when we tried to remove them. I drilled pilot holes and all, in both pine and oak, but the screws broke in both softwood and hardwood. Bought similar bolts (steel) from ACE and they work great. I don't know why the included screws are so soft.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Discontinued

BREAK SCREW HEADS!

I should have listened to other reviews complaining about flimsy screws, but I've never had screw heads in my life. Well, those screws aren't strong enough to drill through hardwood, and while I was installing the bracket, one of the screw heads broke off. Now I have to live with this stain on my sturdy maple handrail and the fact that I had to move the brace so it wasn't evenly spaced.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Vulgarity

They are good best in hardware

They are good but the screws that come with the kit are not long enough for the handrails. They seem solid overall, but if dropped I wouldn't dare say they will hold up. It should be noted that the metal tip that goes into the handrails is flexible. So if you screw it in, it will bend as it is malleable. Don't worry about getting it right, you can orient the main spike any way you like, so we thought we'd corner it.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • thin

I should have simply said that this product is defective. .

I would just say that this product was defective. What, you ask, can go wrong with such simple hardware? screws, that's what. It took very little torque to break the screw heads. The first broke very quickly with my trusty striking tool (and matching pilot holes). So I tried another one with a regular screwdriver. Apparently substandard steel was used on these propellers. Get normal screws from the hardware store, then no problem, but what agony.

Cons
  • Not the best

Good product, longer screws can be used to match color

Bought these to match the brackets on another handrail that is visible from the new position of the handrail. They were lighter in color but worked well. However, I had to use a longer screw than intended. Only the longer screws I could find in antique brass were hinged. They worked very well as the mounting holes on the bracket are countersunk. I noticed that the strap that attaches the handrail to the bracket was a darker antique brass color. Fortunately not very visible on the new railing.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Doubtful

Perfectly fitting and filigree closures!

They're hard to find in big stores in my area. This product has a great finish but railing hardware is delicate if not pre-drilled with a conical drill bit. It has to be precise (not too shallow and not too deep) as the screw will either loosen or the screw head will break before you notice. Overall I think this is great value for a very good product for those who need it to match existing antique brass accessories (door handles, hinges etc). They are easy to install and strong when attached…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

The screws are not broken!

I don't often write reviews. However, after reading reviews that screws break easily during installation, I felt it was worth it. I installed four brackets for a total of 28 screws and pre-drilled all the holes to prevent cracking of the wood on the handrail and my trim that the handrail is also attached to. I had no problems with the screws at all. Not a single head came off. I installed the screws with a socket drill. The only issue I noticed was that the coating on the end of one of the…
