Overall good value at Birds

This feed smells just the way you want your hens to smell! when describing it to others I prefer to call it chicken feed muesli than other layer feeds which I call grapeseeds! much more flavor, texture and nutrition! my chickens love it. The only downside is they don't eat it as a mash/ferment so I feel like we have a lot of waste as there are enough fine particles. Everyone talks about how healthy and energetic my chicks look and I think that has a lot to do with their high quality feed. They…

Great food but beware!

Great food. My chickens and hens have always loved scratching and feeding forage. However, this feed is too large for the first week of life of the chicks. Up until day 12 I was using a coffee grinder which I never used until I got the chicks and this chick chow. From day one, you must also feed the chicks sand so that the chicks can digest it, since it is the sand that grinds up the food in their little bellies. Also note (this may not happen to all laying hens, but it happened to me) this can

MORE WASTE Good for food

I have been feeding this to my chickens for several years and have been very happy with the quality and value of the product. But lately the amount of "powdered" waste has been very discouraging. Last winter I mixed this feed with other organic pellets and the chicks refused to eat the pellets once they tried Scratch & Peck granules so I started feeding them Scratch & Peck only. Their egg production increased along with the quality of the eggs. I was very pleased! But lately there has been a…

I figured this bean would make it easier. nope! It's literally a bag of cheap fishmeal pasta. My girls always leave the powder at the bottom of the bowl so they don't really benefit from fishmeal so I bought this one lol! This is useless because now they get no protein…

Unattractive to my girls

To date, maybe 2 months after purchase, the only useful item in this trio has been DE which I sprinkle on my girls dirty bathrooms and chicken coop to keep ticks away. I haven't had any visible mite activity so I'm assuming it's working and I love that it's organic! The oyster shell and sand seem too coarse to be attractive to my hens but they are only 21 weeks old so they might attract attention. They're quite adult, though, so my plan is to just chop up the oyster shell (probably semolina…
