11/08/2014 Downgraded to one star. The hard drive worked for two and a half weeks, then it gave SMART errors. I entered the serial number into Seagate's warranty checker and was told there was no information on this drive. I'll have to call them to see if they honor the warranty. In the meantime I need to buy another drive to keep my client running while this one gets fixed. 2 weeks. Serious! ok, i forgot once the problem was solved. I called Seagate the day after the first call back. They…

As good as an SSD but cheaper, more space and more reliable

Well I got away with what they say: SSD speed without the expense of an SSD or capacity limitations. I had a 1T SSD as my primary drive (windows 7 desktop) and as I hoped it made everything much faster including booting and basic operations. But 1T fills up fast, and SSDs HATE when there's little or no space left - they retaliate in truly horrible and unpredictable ways. So how do you get enough data from c: drive to make it happy again? Take a second disk and put all my data on it. I received…

Good performance but not enough hardware to install

I installed this drive in a 2008 24" iMac for about a week. So far the drive has performed great as expected, showing significantly improved performance over the 1TB WD Rotary Drive it replaced. The only thing stopping me from giving this product 5 stars is that it doesn't come with any hardware to install it. in the drive housing. I purchased this product (STCL2000400) specifically because the Revain and Seagates websites describe it as a 'kit' as opposed to the ST2000DX001 which is described…

Excellent drive, but non-standard screw holes.

This is an excellent drive in terms of performance. Great speeds (I have 3 of them in raid5 on my NAS), huge capacity and still unmatched reliability. The only real issue I found was with the mounting screw holes. Basically two are missing. Both sides of the drive should have a screw hole roughly in the middle. It's such an old standard that I can't imagine what made Seagate decide to deviate from it. This means that the many standard drive cages and hot-swap trays will not be able to properly…

A 6TB drive is a very large and inexpensive drive.

This is specific to 6TB drives. The mounting jig is not an issue in my case so it's not a negative for me but others have complained about it so be sure and know the details. I bought one a few months ago and the setup was one of the easiest I've ever had and it worked fine, so I recently bought and installed two more and everything seemed fine until I started uploading data transferred, and it was excruciatingly slow. In some cases, write speeds were within a MB/s, although I was expecting at…

Quickly! Computers and Accessories

Multimedia devices make it easy to quickly use up storage space. I replaced the drive with a 3TB drive and copied everything and that should hold me back for a while. Since the heads have to move half as much to work with continuous data, I expected good performance, and it was. You don't need high speed for multimedia, but you do need space. This is a media center with four tuners. The computer is online, so users can use it in multiple locations at the same time. Since one computer can record
