Get the most out of plate rolls

If you have a good sized gate over 7 feet or so and the ground surface isn't smooth concrete, don't even think about getting a smaller 4 inch version of this gate wheel. I did this first because I really didn't want the air wheel to have to worry about not rolling. I have a gravel surface and a 7" wooden gate, the 4" wheel just plowed through the rocks and wouldn't spin. This 8 inch works great. You need to play with the mount to make sure the wheel isn't rubbing on the gate and that you have…

Pros
  • 3-3/4" x 5-1/2" universal mounting plate has 6 extended 3/8" screw holes and provides 2-1/2" vertical travel
Cons
  • Not secure

Very well built. A good buy!

Good solid wheel. If you want the wheel to rotate 360 degrees and not get stuck in the gate, consider installing it about 6 inches from the fence. I used a 6X6 post about 10 inches long that was bolted to the outside of my existing wooden gates. You'll need a long drill if going through 6" lumber plus existing gate wood. You'll need some spring compression when it's adjusted to keep the tire on the ground when driving over rough terrain. Mine worked best when I made a smooth surface for the…

Highly recommended - they stand behind you Product

We bought these gate wheels last year and after 9 months the rubber wheels started to wear out. Thinking they were out of warranty I called to see if I could order replacement tires. Much to my surprise, Shepherd and Revane replaced the entire build! To say I was pleasantly surprised. and very impressed is it to say the least. Revain and Shepherd stood behind the product and I couldn't be happier. We use them on wooden gates we built across our driveway. Two gates are longer than 13 feet so we…

Not quite ready for prime time

Well, a few "estimates" from the contractor: It's rated for 200 pounds. but struggles at 80 lbs. The pile wobbles. Most importantly, the wheel is designed to go in one direction and then has to spin when going in the opposite direction, so it picks up a few pavers from either end of the ride. Also, it doesn't always do that in the same spot (I thought I could pour a concrete slab where it tips over, but that won't work. The wheel turns parallel to the hinges, so I'm wondering if I can fix the…
