Be sure to keep it in your tool box and when you ride your bike

This tool tightens up an important part of your bike, if it comes loose on a bike ride you need to go home that pedal will come off. I keep one with me as long as the cycling is going well and I check it regularly

Pros
  • That's great
Cons
  • It's OK

The right tool for the job

Needed to work with Shimano 105 and Tiagra Hollowtech II cranks. It's the right tool for the job and works flawlessly. Taking off a star because it's three times the price of what it should be for a plain little piece of molded plastic.

Pros
  • Dope ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Cons
  • Compatibility

Why can't Shimano just install an Allen key?

It's a bit annoying that Shimano cranks require a proprietary tool when they could put an allen wrench on the crank cap. On the other hand, at least they made it out of plastic and only charged $6 - I think they could make it out of unobtanium and charge $25.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Update available

Expensive but necessary

When installing or removing a Shimano Hollowtech crank you will need this to tighten/remove the small locking part of the cap. It's a bit pricey for what it is, an incredibly simple, handy plastic tool, but you definitely don't want to ruin your crank by trying to pry it open with a screwdriver or whatever.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Requires socket

POS piece plastic

Might fit the Deore Shimano cranks I have but that's silly and takes a heavy wrench to tighten them all the way - and you can still unscrew the dust cap! I buy another metal on the market that has an Allen keyhole. Don't buy, you might as well throw your money out the window.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for older people

The right tool for the job.

This is a very expensive plastic tool from Shimano that can be used to remove/tighten the lightly tightened plastic crank preload bolt on some Shimano cranks, but it is the right tool for the job which is why it needs knock- Off version at a much lower price that probably works just as well but feels better when you get an authentic product.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Empty

Wow, so simple yet so necessary

The best, easiest and most reliable way to remove the adjusting pin on hollow cranks. So simple, and I'm almost stunned that it's a plastic tool, but the screw that's tightened is crucial. I've seen arms fall off before because someone didn't insert the locking bolt. It provides just enough counterforce to keep your hands ready.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Doesn't fit everything

Shimano Hollowtech-II crank/cap tool.

Fits and works perfectly with Shimano crank mounting bolts. It's hard plastic, as is the screw that tightens it. Simply clean and lubricate the axle and crank splines. Make sure the drive end is fully seated on the bearing cap. Lightly tapping the center of the guide side axle with a rubber mallet is sufficient. Install the crank making sure the clamp bolts are completely loose or removed. Use a cap tool and install the crank until it touches the bearing cup. Do not tighten beyond this pointโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure
