Description of 🔪 Shun DM0816 Hinoki Cutting Board, Medium: Enhance Precision and Style in Your Kitchen

Hinoki is a type of Japanese cypress renowned for its beauty as well as its delicate, natural fragrance. The medium-soft nature of this cypress wood "gives" as you cut, helping to preserve the edges of your fine shun cutlery. Shun'S hinoki products are grown in japan and is forest stewardship council (FSC) certified for sustainable forest management practices. Shun hinoki products are made from wood resulting from forest thinning, which is required to maintain healthy growth. Easy to care for: wet cutting board before each use to resist staining; wash with mild detergent and towel dry, then let air-dry.

As advertised. Great cutting board.

This cutting board is as advertised. It's beautiful and smells fantastic. It's soft for your delicate blades. I've seen reviews on here about the board being too soft, but that's its purpose. If you want a standard blade chopping board at the store, you can find a cheaper and easier to clean/maintain chopping board elsewhere. This board is designed for good blades that are easily damaged by regular boards. It is not intended for washing in the dishwasher. If you don't read the maintenance…

  • Shun'S Hinoki products are grown in Japan and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as sustainable forest management.
Cons
  • Something is wrong

Excellent double-sided cutting board

I got this small, thin and light cutting board mainly for camping, but ended up using it every day home in action. The wood has a pleasant odor that will fade over time and is soft enough not to blunt a sharp knife. I like to use. Some reviewers don't seem to realize that this is a double-sided board that needs to be flipped over if it naturally warps a bit. Conversely, it re-seats, begins to straighten, and eventually begins to deform in the opposite direction. Then just turn around again…

Pros
  • Hinoki is a variety of Japanese cypress known for its beauty as well as a delicate, natural aroma
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something

Beautiful board for the kitchen and dining room

We purchased several Japanese knives and needed a board that was compatible with the tough steel they are made of use. We didn't want to maintain an endboard and rubber boards are too expensive at the moment. This board ticks all the boxes with a good balance of cost, quality and maintainability. Overall a good lightweight cutting board that is easy to maintain. Knife blade also for harder steels to avoid breakouts. The board has a hinoki scent, so if you don't like that smell, you might not…

Pros
  • Shun Hinoki products are made from thinning wood, which is essential for healthy growth
Cons
  • Available in black only

Very nice cutting board: cutlery & knife accessories

Pretty soft wood protects the blade of my expensive chef's knife. Perfect size, nice finish. Small inserts on either end delaminate easily but not completely loose, just a small gap. That's probably because I give it a good wash after each use, then rinse with near-boiling water. I love it and would buy it again. After a year of continuous use several times a day, I have to give this board 5 stars. It is a pleasure to use, I have a medium size as it suits my kitchen. For those saying the board…

Pros
  • Easy care: moisten the cutting board before each use to avoid stains; Wash with mild detergent and towel dry, then air dry
Cons
  • Makes me angry

Mildew, warp, fall apart

EDIT: I wanted to give Shun another shot and bought a new board to replace the horrible board I had before. Already cracked. Immediate return, never buy another Shun product again. The board started falling apart within a month of use. This board has two pieces of wood along the short edges, probably to prevent warping. I store all my boards by the edges to allow both cut surfaces to dry, but of course you can only store this board by the *long* edges or those reinforcements will fall out. Mine
