Sky Caddy SG4 in Sports & Handheld GPS version

The Sky Caddy has more problems connecting to satellites than other models. The charging interface is also more problematic than it should be. A small char screw is used to easily tap the thread. Customer service was helpful but the wait was too long.

  • Poor performance

Big disappointment

Turns out all the bad reviews were right. I never got the chance to use it because I couldn't connect to SkyGolf for the necessary syncing. I tried this on three different computers and they all got the same error messages. Thinking I'm doing something wrong, I asked the IT person to try to sync it as well. He had the same results. The device had the strangest USB connection I've ever seen: 6 pins that had to be screwed into a connector on the back of the device. The only saving grace is that I

Poor design and support

I've been using my SkyCaddy for two seasons now. Last month the plug wouldn't screw into the device and I couldn't charge it. I called tech support and they said I could either send it back and they would replace it or tape it to secure the connector. I decided to send it. They received it on 08/08/08 and to date 09/05/08 I have not heard from the company. They say I just have to wait my turn. Bad support  and bad design. The connection should not be a small screw that can be easily…

Excellent except: Sports & Handheld GPS

I recently bought two of these, one for a friend. Played with him and another guy the other day. We all had different sky caddies: 2.5s, 4s and 5s. They were all consistent with each other, they were extremely accurate and brilliantly mapped. The only difficulty with the SG4 is why they have such a terrible connection cable. Be careful not to overtighten the small set screw. What was wrong with the standard USB connector on 2.5 and 5. Just a little advice. If you turn the connection cable…

Works great most of the time; Customer Service No

I ride the SG4 in the middle of the road. When it works (and it usually does), I like it. Not the latest technology but the information is reliable. But if it doesn't work, then don't expect any help from Skygolf. Here are the weaknesses: Poor battery life; Rare satellite reception problems (GPS reset required); Weak connection cable (I broke two, had to replace); Before the annual contract expires, they will shut you down (force you to renew it so you can use it until the last day of your…

bad product bad service bad design

I have had the SG3 for 2 years now. I hate this pathetic junk. I downloaded 10 courses and it was work. it loses satellites, it loses signals, it's inaccurate and not as good as my SG2 friends. I don't understand how two GPS devices from the same manufacturer can stand next to each other and get different readings. I sent it in for repair and got it back 45 days later for $30. The sad thing still doesn't keep the sat and switches off every two or three holes. The restart then takes 5 minutes…

Great price Bad design Great customer service

Must match most, very poor power cord design. What, as they say. My SG4 works perfectly, no problems with GPS for 3 years. The thread on the adapter screw was torn off, I contacted the company, they helped me a lot, I had to pay shipping, but that's all. Received the item back after about 3 weeks. Not a problem as I live in Michigan and have not had to use this product. I've been using it for the last 4 1/2 months with no problems. So if you want to bet on bad food design, the product is a good

Good when it works - GPS modules for golf courses

I bought this in December 2007. When it works, it's great to have on the field. But I had problems with that. 1) The cable you use to charge it and use it to sync with your computer to download courses is difficult to connect. You have to work on it. 2) Initially, I often had problems connecting to satellites and getting readings on the course. Then suddenly, say on the 13th hole, he would come alive. This problem seemed to occur on cloudy days. However, earlier this year (2009) SkyGolf…
