These punches are dull like a butter knife. I found a video online saying this is not uncommon for Chinese stamps and went through the sharpening process. This requires special tools and equipment. I built a jig and bought a sharpening tool and finally got it to work quite well. Just be aware that you will have to spend some time and money on it.

I was looking for something that could cleanly cut through four layers of fabric, two layers of wool, and two layers of lining. I made a fabric book and needed to install some 5/16 inch grommets. What a wonderful tool this is! This worked great and I have a choice of sizes to use. And it is fun! I am making felt Halloween decorations and need a reliable way to add eyelets to the finished piece. After trying a hand punch with horrible results, I purchased this punch set. I hit 2 layers of felt with a plastic hammer in 4 hits. The catalogs that I don't need and that come in the mail make the perfect layer under the felt to protect the table top. I used a 3/16 inch punch because I use thick yarn for lacing. Works great and I'm happy with the result.

This would be a good set of punches if it weren't for the very poor cutting edges. Right out of the box the 3/4 inch hole punch had visible chipping on the cutting edge before each use. Only upon visual inspection was it clear that it would not cut evenly or properly. a hammer for severing thin plastic lids from food containers. While the shafts are a good weight and have a knurled grip, a bad cutting edge ruined what could have been a good product. I don't recommend them. You get what you pay…
