The lock does not work after 15 feet.

If the belt is pulled more than 20 feet, the latch will not hold the belt open, it will attempt to pull back 15 feet before stopping. When the band is stretched 35 feet or more, it looks like a rocket with the lock. Update: Tape exploded after being pulled 30 feet. The housing expands, guiding the spring inward. Now he's stuck in a 40-foot mess.

Pros
  • Consistent Test Results
Cons
  • Weak

Max length 40 feet - length measurement

I've had this band for about a week now. I hardly used it and was careful with it. The plastic wrap will peel off the underside of the blade. I've had problems with the return of the tape. the cupped shape of the blade is also uneven. The bowl is buckled between 11 and 23 feet. not the quality i expected from a fat max. I have had several Max fax tapes and they have been excellent compared to this one.

Yes. That's big.

I typically use a red-tipped Lufkin X46 folding rule (my favorite ruler of the last 50 years) and 16 and 30 foot tapes. But I bought this 40 foot house to build a 30 foot tiny house. It was very convenient to check the transverse corners for squareness and make all the markings on the walls. It's a beast and it's hanging in my pocket trying to pull my pants down but it was the right tool for the job. I've used it for my entire build and it shows no signs of wear. good tool.

Frustration with linear measurements

I don't usually write reviews as they are mostly opinions. However, I have been a contractor for 25 years and have only used Stanley tapes. I had this tape 22 months before it failed and 23 months before it failed completely. No warranty, no customer service that I could find. Also, they increased the price! I am a long time customer and used to be happy to pay a little more for quality and sadly have to say but am now looking for a new company to buy cassettes from.

Pros
  • GOLS certification
Cons
  • Useless features

Chunky and strong but difficult to lock

I like the way this thing looks (chunky and strong) but the lock on mine is hard to engage. I often have to use both hands, which often causes the band to pull back when trying to fasten it. My hands are big and I have decent arm strength, so there's no lack of grip. Either way, at this price point, Stanley should consider a cam lever that rises to unlock the band and simply clicks down to lock, rather than pushing and squeezing at the same time.

  • Weight

  • Hard to say

Not what they used to be.

I think Fat Max cartridges are slipping into a world of mediocrity! I've been a carpenter for twenty years and always use thick tape. The last few I bought weren't the same caliber as the last few, maybe it's a Covid related issue? Regardless, the blade is thinner, flatter, and doesn't extend the expected distance! They seem to break much easier. My last one seemed a bit twisted at the end but I told myself I must have done something when I first got it but after I broke it two months later and

This is great tape, especially for roofers.

As a roofer, I always measure 30+ feet. I had several Stanely 35s and decided to try the 40s when I stumbled across them here at Revain. It works just as well as any other Fat Max tape, just bulkier with the extra length. Certainly better than going down the roof for a 50 foot tape measure when measuring things between 35 and 40 feet. It retracts perfectly and is quite durable with multiple roofs in place. I started using original Stanley cassettes in the 90's and even have a couple of 25ft and

Pros
  • Blade width 1-1/4¿ for readability
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

With Fatmax, just tried other brands and they just don't stand out like this one. I've been using 35ft for years but I have a construction business. I do a lot of layouts over 60ft, this allows me to get down to 37ft before I have to drive a nail to continue. Fits my hand well - the XL doesn't brag, but if you have a smaller hand it can be uncomfortable to hold. And yes 37 feet not 40 no band will consistently get out of the elements without braking or not fully retracting you can get 40 but…

Pros
  • 11ft blade Outstanding* in reach and performance
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Not what I expected!

I've heard so much about Fat Max tapes that I had to try them on the house we are building. I bought two 25' tapes and one 40'. They were delivered to me on April 1st 2020 so maybe that explains what happened once I used them. 40" tape was enough for 3 measurements. All 3 were 37 ft-3 inches. On the third and final measurement, the tape returned so quickly that it ended up snapping, almost cutting the tape in two at about the 2" mark ripped in half. I also cut my finger in the process. The 25'…

Pros
  • 16" and 19.2" dowel center markings make frame construction easier.
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks.
