The first installation is a breather. There's no way to get confused by plugging in the card first (unlike other models that require finding and downloading the right drivers before plugging in), and the drives are packaged in a self-executing shell on the included CD . Ready! It's easy to connect and disconnect! I've just tried another adapter and this one doesn't even fit because it's poor quality and a little too well designed to fit properly. If, like me, you have 3 different ExpressCardโ€ฆ

The little adapter that could!

I'm asking for a Lenovo TP220x tablet (manufactured November 2011) to run a Win10 virtual machine from an ExpressCard slot - USB 3.0 ext HDD. Using Virtual Box - Boot Time: USB 2.0 (2 min: 15 sec), 3.0 (1 min: 31 sec) YAY! Much faster! Copy a 30GB TIB file (from external drive to main OS) - USB 2.0 (15 min: 57 sec), USB 3.0 (6 min: 32 sec) Hooray! Much faster! The adapter fits snugly in the slot. The main operating system is Win10. No drivers required. It recognized the Ext HDD I wanted to use.

Awesome map, big speed boost for a fraction of the cost!

First of all I am using this card with my MacBook Pro (Late 2008) with El Capitan 10.11.2. ***THIS IS NOT INTENDED OR RECOMMENDED FOR THIS ***But with a few careful steps and some research, you can do it too. I haven't tried this on any of my Windows machines as they don't have Expresscard slots. This card uses the Renesas uPD720200 chipset (at least mine). This card has been found to work on multiple forums with multiple versions of OSX, but the basics are as follows (on El Capitan): 1โ€ฆ

Unreliable. in computer components

Just turns off when not in use. When I use it it seems to work fine, but when I unplug the USB it eventually shuts down and I have to restart Win 10 for it to work temporarily. I updated all the drivers for this thing. Also, I absolutely hate how removing the USB cable pulls the entire card out of the slot if you're not VERY careful with it. It doesn't lock (which I've read is a common problem with the Expresscard 34 due to design differences, but that's the default.) The other card I lock isโ€ฆ

Works great on Lenovo T420 / Windows 10.

I upgraded my Lenovo T420i from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 a few weeks ago, which turned out to be a pretty good move for the most part. However, I had an ExpressCard with two USB 3 ports from IOGear. Before the update, it worked relatively well, but often had to be reset. Doesn't work anymore after Windows update. IOGear stated that they will not support their card for Windows 10, so I did some research and bought this card from StarTech. I received a StarTech card in the mail thisโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Speed

Like any other 34mm Expresscard USB3 adapter, this adapter works about half the time. Points for an extra power connector, but I'm using a huge power hub anyway, so this isn't necessary. This unit seems a little more powerful or a lot more powerful than all the many cheaper options I've used, but it's no more reliable. I think it's a bit faster than any other brand I've tried (when it works), but I'm not 100% sure. Thing is, this thing only works occasionally and pops out slightly like everyโ€ฆ

  • Finally bought it
