This is the third time I buy this mailbox. I lost the first one because of a drunk driver. The second was hit by someone trying to drive a large van on my narrow street. I ordered another one which would have been delivered quicker than this model but after taking it out of the box and seeing lower quality compared to this one I sent it back and received one that I knew was good would be good. I hope Step2 never stops this if I lose another mailbox.

Since installing this mailbox in April, we've seen a wave of smiling postmen and envious passers-by. --- UPDATE --- I got a replacement that has a much narrower (useful) rail to rail spacing. Assembly and installation was easy after I trimmed the original 4" rack down to a 4" rack. My kit included a back valve and stick-on numbers, some say their kits were missing. It's impossible to beat this price for a decent looking, functional and quick to build mailbox. We got the same mailbox last week and were so delighted we ordered a second one (this one) next to it for our neighbors. A few days ago someone stumbled across our new mailbox and destroyed it, so this second mailbox had to be used to replace the destroyed mailbox. Pretty good mailbox. I dug a hole, stuck the post in, cemented it in and went back the next day and put the mailbox on the post. The doors open, the flag goes up and down, there is plenty of space on the sides for house numbers, names, etc. It can also withstand being hit with a hockey stick out of the car window. Great mailbox! First, it arrived on time and in perfect condition. Overall I am satisfied with the mailbox. The doors have a magnetic catch that keeps them closed. My previous box had two protrusions on the side that became ineffective. The wind will open both doors and the mail will be scattered. I think the magnets are strong enough it shouldn't be a problem. This simple design consists of only two parts. Overall quite an attractive mailbox that was easy to install. My old pole was starting to loosen, but with only 2 feet off the ground I was able to just cut the existing pole and stick it in there. Only 4 stars for several reasons. At first it rubbed a little because it bounced in the box. It's okay because it's outside, but it would be nice if it started out untouched. This is one of the simplest and most attractive mailboxes I have ever used. It's made from heavy-duty plastic/vinyl and comes with everything you need for assembly except for the required 4x4 rack.
