There is nothing better

I always read all the one star reviews to see what the problem is. Ever since I bought one of these in 1999, I know what my experience has been so far. None of the reviews stopped me from buying a new one. My old lady, almost 20 years old, ended up getting a little bored. This new cut very soft tomatoes. Everything was sealed. Nothing was opened so nothing was ever used. I am just as happy with my 2017 purchase as I was with my 1999 purchase.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Long delivery time

What's not to like?

This is a wonderful Model 1001 with various accessories. The catch bowl is included in the scope of delivery. Customization is limited, but I've always found 2 slice thicknesses and julienne sizes to be adequate. As with all mandolins, grab a clipped glove for use with mushrooms and the like, but the included vegetable holder is great for everything else. Washes clean except for red things or carrots. Gentle washing of hands, careful handling of a terribly sharp blade are suitable for this…

Better than the most expensive ever!

This is my second mandolin from this company. I bought my first in the mid 1980's. Finally, he finally breathed his last! I was so glad the same product was available from Revain. I've tried other products like this and they don't compare. The ease of slicing and feeding onions and carrots through Julian's blade is amazing! You might think it's potatoes or tomatoes. Make sure you use a safety holder as it processes the veggies very quickly and the blades can easily cut your fingers. I like that

  • Decent performance

  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly

Good product, missing accessories

We made a purchase but when it arrived we were disappointed. I believe the Swissmar Boner will work as advertised, but it comes with a blade storage case and vegetable holder. The storage method leaves room for small hand cuts unless you store julienne blades upside down in a container to allow them to dull. The speaker bracket shown in the ad cannot be ordered. The advertised storage box would have made many things more convenient and safer. It is a pity that these accessories cannot be…

Unfortunately too scary for me to use. I really wanted to love it!

I really wanted to like it! I waited a long time to spend $ and get this. I was particularly excited to receive a German product as they are absolutely the best! I need to know that my husband is 100% German! :-) However, this thing scares me! I don't like the pen/food holder; it does not fit in the rail and can easily slip off! The other blades are wide open and must be handled with extreme care. I'm an avid cook who has worked in restaurants, commercial kitchens and is also a retired…

What I don't like is that the blades of the set of 7 are loose...

The description is misleading. Trolley in a 7-piece set. I ordered this set and it didn't come with a storage basket. The packaging of the item I received clearly states what it contains, but the car is not listed. I contacted Amazon support and they said they would consider updating the product page to reflect this. I don't like the idea of leaving blades in a storage tray for two reasons: 1. Safety2. If they are loose and banging against each other, they become dull, reducing the item's…

excellent mandolin - mandolins

I originally bought a Swissmar Borner V-Prep Mandolin V-5000 to chop tomatoes, apples and persimmons for a food dehydrator. The product is made of thick plastic with different panels to change the settings. Simple and easy to use, you can make thin or thick slices (no intermediate) or threads with julienne plates. The plates are easy to clean, but you have to be careful when inserting and removing them, the blades are open and sharp. 3 panels make it easy to change settings and perform various…

Works best in kitchen utensils and gadgets

I used to have a couple of mandolins and in my experience they were very cheap and didn't work at all. They were full of junk, and they were dangerous because they don't cut well, causing them to stick and slip your hand. This one cuts really well, it's almost scary. When I first got it, I made a test slice out of red potatoes. I didn't think it worked properly because it didn't require any power at all. I looked down and saw that half of the potatoes were already cut. When I say no power…

The best mandolin for the price!

This is going to be a long review as I've been an original V-Slicer user since 1988. Yes, it took that long, almost 30 years! I was hoping to make it 30 years and then replace it, but I dropped the large julienne on my nose and it broke right on the blade line (it broke a bit already, it just sped up the process). I use the most so can't live without. So I bought a new V 5000. It's very similar to the original in every way. The original came with most of the extra accessories you can buy…
