Type of review

I bought this specifically for the RS232 interface as I needed to do long term data logging for a project. The included software worked in XP but didn't work properly on my Win7 x64 machine - I'm a computer engineer with 35 years of experience writing software, so I know how to work around all Windows compatibility issues and have tried everything before you give up. To counter this, I deployed Visual Studio and wrote my own data logger. The meter was flawless and for the price and…

Cheapest RS-232 meter available

I bought this meter purely because of the inexpensive RS-232 support. I needed to log the voltage for a project in two days and this was the easiest way to do it. Good news? The RS-232 works as advertised and the AA batteries were enough to run my tests. COM port settings: 2400, 8-N-1. The only bad news is that the log this meter outputs is not "human readable" but rather the encoding of the actual display segments that are on or off. Fortunately, some rudimentary software is included that will

Not 100% happy with the answer

Worked fine for a few years (bought in 2014). The internal fuse had just blown and I decided to just replace the entire meter with something else. The sound disappeared on this device in less than a month of ownership - only a couple of times. I immediately contacted the manufacturer about this and they seemed to address my concerns, but at the time I didn't think it would make sense to ship the device to them as requested, so I simply declined. Now I know that Revane would probably have turned

Amazing battery life! Ideal for logging voltage or sensors.

I've been using it for a long time and I have to say I'm very impressed. The power consumption of this meter is microscopic! I've started using it to monitor power fluctuations by logging the output over an RS232 cable and even with rechargeable AA batteries it will work for weeks and last a few days after the low battery warning comes on. Turn off the auto shutoff feature, just hold down the select button while turning it on and the settings appear to be saved until the batteries are removed…

Good but limited range.

Works well with all the features of a typical multimeter plus some other features that other multimeters in this price range don't have such as: B. measuring frequency, temperature and capacitance. Software that uses RS232 is practically useless unless. You need an old PC with a 9-pin RS232 interface or a USB to RS232 adapter. The software is very rigid and ugly. The only thing I could use this for is if I want to chart a value over a period of time and I'm not even sure if this software will…

RS232 works on Mac (and Win 7)

I bought this for the RS232 function only. A phase of my residential air conditioner was failing and I wanted to check it. I have tried the complete software on Win 7 PC. It does not work. Knowing that finding an open source solution for Mac wouldn't be difficult, I decided to try it on my Mac Mini. Found QtDMM on mtoussaint.de (google). It didn't work on the first try. The COM port was not found. I used a serial to USB converter cable since my Mac (and indeed my Win 7 computer) didn't have…

Good inexpensive DMM with computer interface

I've looked at a number of inexpensive auto range DMMs but settled on this one because it has a computer interface. True, this is the old RS232 serial port, and most modern computers no longer have a serial port. Luckily I already had the Radio Shack RS232 to USB adapter cable on hand. I plugged it in and it works great with the software that came with it. The software includes both analogue and digital meter displays. It also allows for data logging and charts, including the ability to print…

High quality for home and hobby.

Relevance for the 21st century. Bought my first digital multimeter. Analog user in the last decades. Supplies for general home use and new hobby (rc quads). After watching a number of videos and writing reviews, I settled on this particular meter. The build quality, accuracy, and precision feel almost like "Fluke" quality, but at a significant savings. Tested against relatively good quality charger/reader (iCharger 206B). Voltage, resistance, meter readings almost identical. Close enough for…
