They installed two LEDs on the top of the scale on the bottom of the scale to illuminate the surface of the scale. "Backlight means backlit." (This is a dictionary quote). I'm old enough to have grown up with analog multimeters. I have had digital multimeters for many years. They work well but I miss the d'Arsonval movement and its instant response.
