Very good analog meter, satisfied for the money

there are certain tests for which the analog meter is very useful, with some tests the digital counter readings jump too quickly. For example; Testing capacitors, checking for shorts or opens, continuity, etc. This meter seems fairly robust and accurate enough for most tests. For less than $30 this is a decent counter and well made. Tip: Be aware that static electricity can build up on the meter's clear plastic cover, which can cause the meter needle to drift from zero (this is common with…

Good meter but beware of the 'backlight'

This is a pretty decent meter for the price. I give one star because of the backlight. It's not backlit. They installed two LEDs on the top of the scale on the bottom of the scale to illuminate the surface of the scale. "Backlight means backlit." (This is a dictionary quote). To illuminate the counter, you need to install a lamp under the scale so that the scale glows. This is very different from their surface mount LEDs. Personally, I found the LED lighting to be glaring, which makes reading…

It looks very well made and sturdy, I really like the backlight

Overall it looks very well made and solid, I really like the backlight. I like the soft plastic outer shade that absorbs shock if hit or dropped. However, they refer to this shield as a "holster," which is definitely not the case. To me, a holster implies a way of carrying it on a belt, like a pistol or tape measure. They used self-tapping screws to hold the two halves of the main plastic body together. They must be unscrewed to insert and replace the batteries. This is a very bad design in…

Nice gauge - tools and supplies

Haven't had a chance to test it yet. I love how it looks and feels. Looks like a good quality product. I need an analog meter and will return it after some time. Remember the CHEAP switches called Sunwa. or samwa. I went to the Samwa website and there is a warning about these cheap Chinese imitations. Some of them even bear the name Samva. In appearance, you can not say that this is an imitation. Real samwas are expensive, high-end counters, you won't find them for as little as fifty dollars…

The analog scale is "practical " for "oldtimers " like me.

I'm old enough to have grown up with analog multimeters. I have had digital multimeters for many years. They work well but I miss the d'Arsonval movement and its instant response. Analog gauges (like this one) are familiar and quite sensitive to people like me. Being retired I don't need a 'working' multimeter and while the Simpson 260 is probably the 'best analog' meter out there I just can't justify the cost. This unit: TP72444L, does everything I need, seems solid enough and is a fraction of
