100% negative/error

Fon. I have used genuine Heli-Coil thread repair products for over 40 years. In this particular case, I had to repair six punctures in the wheels of a magnesium alloy airplane; I didn't want to pay $55 for a 6 hole heli coil repair kit so I went with this kit. BIG MISTAKE. I then bought the original Heli-Coil kit and repaired six holes with no problem. What is the difference? When I used the Heli-Coil tap, it removed some more material from the hole previously drilled. Something is wrong with…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Worked best in thread repair kits

I've had no problems with the kit. I bought this to fix an old drawer handle that couldn't be replaced. I clamped the drawer member in a vise and used a drill press to drill a hole of the required new diameter for a larger faucet. The insert entered the new threaded hole smoothly. The whole job took no more than 10 minutes. As mentioned, this kit does not include the required 11/64 drill bit, but I already had it. This kit also doesn't include the blue pre-needle threader, but I didn't need it.

Pros
  • handy item
Cons
  • don't remember

Cheaper alternative to Helicoil

I had to repair a broken thread in a timing case cover. The 8-32 thread is a pretty small thread. My bike has two threaded holes holding the point plate and someone in the past just cut one of the holes. I decided to drill and install these inserts in both threaded holes. I have found that helical coils provide stronger threads than plain aluminum threads. This set had everything you needed except for the standard drill bit which I already had. It installed easily and now the threads are fine…

Pros
  • Permanent test results
Cons
  • Cargo

Not quite a complete set

Broken 1/4 inch bolt in aluminum lawnmower engine block. (Whoever last worked on the engine didn't use anti-seize compound on the bolt threads, so the steel bolt caught the threads in the aluminum block, causing it to lock up.) For those reading this and not aware, Up in the final equipment, threaded inserts are used with the aluminum engine block, allowing steel bolts to be used and removed without the use of anti-seize compound (PermaTex). Sold by Thread Kits under the Perma-Coil brand name…

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other alternatives
