Description of 🔌 Black TiVo AP0100 WiFi 5 USB Adapter for Enhanced Connectivity

No more stringing Coax or Ethernet Cables to access your TiVo DVR from another room. Wirelessly extend your TiVo experience to any room in your house. Simply plug the TiVo USB Wi-Fi 5 adapter into your TiVo MINI VOX using the included USB extension cable, connect to your wireless network, and you’re ready to go!. TiVo’s Wi-Fi 5 adapter requires an existing 5 GHz wireless network. Many wireless networking equipment supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, so you’ll need to make sure you connect your MINI VOX to the higher speed 5 GHz network. A USB extension cable is included to allow placement away from other electronics that could cause wireless interference. TiVo’s Wi-Fi 5 adapter has been tested with most popular wireless mesh systems, including Eero, Orbi, Unifi, Google Nest WiFi, and more. For best performance, your host DVR should be connected to your home network using a wired Ethernet connection. TiVo USB Wi-Fi 5 adapter, USB extension cable, and Velcro strips included. Compatible with TiVo Edge, TiVo Bolt and TiVo Mini VOX.

Tivo in every room without coaxial cable

That solved my wiring problems! The key is to pay attention to the instructions and upgrade your minis with coax before attempting to go wireless. The wireless option on the minis appears to be part of a software update. So if you try to connect to a wireless network before performing the software update, the wireless option will not appear. This is right after the update. I updated them in the room where I had the coax, then moved the mini and wireless adapters to their final locations.

Knowing what it will and won't do

Bought with a mini vox to replace the cable box in the guest room. What isn't clear is that this only works if your main device is connected to a Wi-Fi network - if you have a multiple Tivo device setup (I have a Bolt and the original Mini without Wi-Fi), that require Ethernet or Moca, this wireless dongle will not work. I have no doubt that if all the parameters to use are met, it will work as intended, but in my case it wasn't. Had the information been clearer I would have avoided this…

Works great with my Mini VOX

I bought this to provide connectivity for my recently purchased TiVO Mini VOX. The adapter works great! A note: Before you install this mini wireless adapter, you need to set it up for a wired connection. Once the Mini is already set up, unplug the network cable, plug in the adapter and complete the setup. My setup is line of sight and has no barriers between router and adapter.

Doesn't work with Google Nest WiFi

Worked with the Mini on my previous network on a nearby TP-Link WiFi router - 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks had different names on this system. When I installed my new Google Nest Wifi mesh system after Christmas, it connected and communicated with Tivo, but wouldn't let me receive programs from my Tivo DVR - it said it wasn't connected to the internet. After several attempts I gave up. Obviously this will not work on systems where 5G and 2.4G networks share a common name.

Works only if the main unit has the latest update.

ATTENTION! This adapter only works if the master device has the latest software installed - the hated Tivo Experience. When I first set it up, TiVo said the adapter needed to be updated to the latest software. No problem. The update has been downloaded. Upon completion it said the adapter would not work because my Roamio Plus head unit had not been updated to the latest version. This forced me to downgrade the adapter software. I have made. After that, the adapter stopped working. In short, the

Set up your Tivo using a wired connection first

Before you connect the wireless adapter you need to configure your new Tivo over Ethernet. I connected the Mini to my modem with a short cable and connected it to the monitor via HDMI. Set up the Mini, update the software (happens automatically) and then get it working with my existing DVR (Tivo Vox) while still using the ethernet cable. I then plugged in the wireless USB adapter and the box automatically recognized this and displayed on-screen instructions. Follow the instructions and the…

Not worth the hassle

The whole point of getting a wireless adapter was to reduce the hassle of running an Ethernet cable from one room to another. Due to TiVo's poor tech, you have to plug your new TiVo box into an ethernet port so you can use a wireless adapter, which is really stupid considering you wouldn't need a wireless adapter if you had one Ethernet port available. First. I've installed several TiVo boxes in the past and they've all been a pain in the ass with far too many inconsistencies. After all this…

TiVo WiFi 5 USB adapter not working with old Tivo Mini

Our TiVo MoCA connection is not very fast when connected to our new Tivo Bolt Vox so I decided to give the Try TiVo WiFi 5 USB Adapter. The instructions say "just connect and change the network settings". Not everything is so simple, especially if you have an old Tivo Mini. After searching the internet, including the TiVo and YouTube forums, I came to a dead end. I had to call TiVo customer service. Turns out you need the latest TiVo Mini VOX for Wi-Fi to work. Now I've lost almost $200 in…
