Saved my broken brake line nuts

I almost ripped off the brake line nuts even with a box end wrench and some heat and penetrating oil. He did what he had to do very quickly and easily. I'd love to find another use for this, but it seems like my regular channel blockers do pretty much everything else.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • There are downsides

Consider the larger 10LW instead

This is a quality instrument, although the stated detection range needs careful interpretation. While it could theoretically grip something 3/4" with its jaws, the reality is that even with something as small as 1/2" you'll likely have trouble applying the required torque with such a long handle. This is the average size for this vise grip style; Instead, consider the larger Vise-Grip 10LW - I think that's a much more useful size in general.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • There are bugs

Special tools available

I would like to give 5 stars but I find a regular set wrench works great for most fasteners and you can use the same wrench for many purposes. And other things. It's a specialty tool, and for that purpose alone it works very well - it doesn't seem to damage the shutter that much. Outside of reuse, so damaged or not, I just want to remove it. That's what my other pliers mostly work for. Seems like I only use it when I'm blindly reaching and coming up with it.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Get a grip on wrenches

Won't carry around an arsenal of tools for that random stubborn nut or bolt. Then take the original IRWIN Tools VISE-GRIP locking key. I've used it several times and I'm delighted. I recommend #4 and #8 for both large and small nuts. Now a disclaimer. This will not cover every nut and bolt situation you will encounter. Compared to a standard combination wrench, these pliers are much larger and limit access to tight spaces. So don't buy it thinking it replaces a set of wrenches, it's not. But if

The jaws will not reopen when the latch is released and the handles closed.

Jaws will not reopen when latch is removed and handles are opened. I have purchased other "Vise-Grip" products, both made in Nebraska, and this product from Taiwan. Others have jaws that open when the lock is removed and the handles opened. It's much more convenient than this one where the jaws stay closed. UPDATE: 11/16/2016 Sticky (Closed) Sponges (Two Stars) Item was returned and a replacement ordered. The replacement works very well. "Two stars" for the original device and "Five stars" for…

#1 in customer service

I have nothing but good things to say about this company. I ordered a custom vise to complete a brake job I was working on with a rounded brake line connector so of course I was very upset when it was delivered defective. I signed up with Revain and made a complaint about it and within an hour I got a text saying my new key had already been sent and I would just send the broken one back if I could and gave me 5 weeks to do it. I actually received my new wrench before I had a chance to go back…

  • Quality workmanship
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Brilliant when rarely needed.

This product delivers the excellent quality I expect from my vise. This is a great non-scratch wrench for grabbing a nut or bolt head while tightening another. It is larger than a regular wrench, so you can only use it in cases where there is a lot of space. At the same time, it is no bulkier than ordinary pliers. The benefit here is that it has a special maul that won't scratch the hex bolt. Of course, regular vises work almost as well, although they can leave some marks on equipment. The…

Pros
  • Built-in cutting pliers saves tool changes. Manufactured from high quality alloy steel with heat treatment for maximum strength and durability.
Cons
  • Available in white only

Vise-Grip 7LW removed everything and saved me money

I restored my 50 year old 1963 Pontiac Catalina. Almost everything under this car is either rotted or rusted. Use a string wrench to remove break lines and round off the heads. Nothing else I've tried has helped resolve these old fault lines. Frustrated and willing to cut lines, as well as needing to over expand and spend money on extra parts. A friend recommended that I at least try a Vise-Grip 7LW Locking Wrench. No dealership has sold them or even heard of them. It is very disappointing that

Cons
  • Not sure

Fantastic tool for working with hex fasteners

If you need a tool to loosen or hold tight nuts and bolts this is a great option. Jaws are designed to accept hex head fasteners (bolts, nuts, etc.) and hold them securely in place. They are excellent for loosening heavily tightened or rusted nuts and bolts. Special jaws provide a much more secure grip than traditional vise grip pliers or wrenches. (But beware: these special jaws make this tool less versatile than traditional Vise-Grip pliers.) Be sure to choose the right size. In my…
