Bad design for 12 speed chains, needs to change.

This chain breaker is a good tool but does not work well with the narrow chains used in modern 12 speed mountain bike transmissions. You can see in the photos how those little grommets that hold the chain in place prevent it from being snug against the back plate of the tool. While it could still do its job, I didn't like my chain being pushed at an angle (Photo 1) and risking bending it, so I filed the teeth (Photo 2) until the chain was perfectly flat against the back plate (photo 1). 3)…

Functional mini chain tool.

Among the compact and compact chain tools, this one stands out. When I received it I immediately transferred it to the Shimano chain and knocked out the chain pin without using any other tricks to get the lever off the tool. In other words, I only used my hands. The bottom line is this tool works without driving you crazy and I love the fact that it has a shelf to center the pin after you've driven it in so the connection doesn't get stuck. This is a much better method than bending the chain…

Works well on a bike

With this little tool I snapped the old 9 speed chain and put a new one together with no problem. It's small but has enough leverage in the grip to easily pop the pins out. It seems a bit fragile when in use but it didn't break so maybe not. I found myself being careful yet moving slowly, watching the tool the whole time to make sure the pin was centered and the chain was flat against the tool. Has it ever broken? But it was one of the cheapest "brand name" tools I found, so paying more to get…

Mine was bent

Have to buy another one and this time from someone else. The tool is bent (see picture in package). I'm sure they will claim that it was bent in transit or something, but consider this: if it can bend slightly in transit then it isn't. strong and you should move on. I've tried bending it back with pliers and it's STRONG. I couldn't quite bend it. I gave it two stars because it still "kinda" works. I was able to cut the chain, but it was a bit wobbly because the chain wasn't sitting properly. I…

Seems like a nice little tool

to keep in my saddlebag just in case and also when it's time to change the chain. At just 3 inches long, it's about the size of a lighter but weighs 3 ounces. It is well made and feels strong. Arriving from Taiwan rather than China could be a good sign that it's made of higher quality metal. I also considered the Parker ct-5 mini chain tool but aside from the price this one was easier to use and also has a chain clip and pen storage. However, unlike the Parker CT-5, you can't change the…

like a sharp knife through butter

For years I had to struggle with broken chain links. I always thought I was doing something wrong, watched countless YouTube videos to see what miracles others were doing, which I apparently failed to do. However, having used this I can safely say that all my old cheap circuit breakers weren't up to the task. In doing so, I found that the pin hole is smaller on some circuit breakers than others. So if your chain has the larger pins your tool will allow, you can be the strongest person alive and

Exactly what I needed!

I needed a good tool to break down some chains into dozens of little links for a robotics project. After playing around with one of the cheap $5 big box tools for about 15 minutes, I realized that there HAS to be something better. That was it. Solid construction, good leverage, and a push pin that actually stays in line with the chain pin as you turn the crank. I've lost count of how many links I've removed to this point (can't wait to start rebuilding! *sigh*) and the tool survived every…
