Recommended by The Wirecutter

These smaller wire cutters are ideal to leave on your kitchen counter or counter all the time. I love the coarse grind it produces. Somehow it doesn't bother me. Unlike other coffee grinders I've used, there are almost no bits of dust or pepper that fall out after use.

doesn't take up much space

My only criticism of the way it was just sent to me is that the pepper grinder just came out in a plastic bag. Pepper was everywhere. Also the horribly sticky barcode sticker on the pepper mill. It took me 30 minutes to scrape it off and remove the adhesive - what a mess. But as far as I can tell, the grinder itself is good.

So far perfect for kitchen utensils and gadgets

I don't like grinding pepper with a long, bulky meat grinder. I want something light. This is the perfect size. 10 gentle twists yield half a teaspoon of ground pepper. And the size of the flakes is very consistent - no clumps. Seems pretty strong. I'll be using it every day, so I'll let you know how it works in a few months.

Pros
  • Sleek design

Great value for money

So far this is a great product for the price. It doesn't feel brittle, it rolls quite easily with little effort, and it can be adjusted to get different sizes of peppers to your liking. I feel like you need to play a bit with the pepper size adjustment by turning the knob at the top. It takes a little effort to find the perfect size you need. I really wish it was as simple as a click and install mechanism, but overall I'd say it offers the best value for money and feels like it should last…

Very important; very happy with pepper performance

It was either this or a $50 unicorn and not being a fancy chef I couldn't justify the cost of the latter. I can't believe I waited this long to get the right pepper grinder (I've used the cheap ones you buy peppers in like McCormick or Kirkland Costco). This is an incredible step forward, and the output is great for my home cooking (I wonder if $50+ is "too" much pepper at once). Either way, if you're a home cook, this is a great pepper. Grinder As a bonus, it already came with black pepper.

Pros
  • looking forward to

  • unreliable

Worked fine at first but now it wasn't full of pepper as promised

When we first got the grinder it seemed to work fine. Now it doesn't grind the pepper very well and I don't know why. Maybe something is loose or needs sharpening. Also, it was reportedly full but contained less than a tablespoon of peppercorns. I don't know if it was a one off mistake or that's how they all come. I would also like to know the source and type of pepper they provided. The product comes without explanation and information, just in a plastic bag. Would like to contact the company…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Bad set

Grinder made of steel, construction made of wood, no plastic!

Love everything about the mill itself; It does an excellent job of maintaining my favorite grind setting (using the knurled top knob) and grinds smoothly and evenly. No complaints. What I didn't like was the carelessness of the packaging. It was mailed in a soft flexible envelope with other small items. Only a thin, *unsealed* plastic bag was originally enclosed inside. It was partially unpacked when it arrived and one of the smaller pieces had small dents on the top and side of the coffee…

Pros
  • Slices and then grinds to maximize flavor; comes filled, ready to use
Cons
  • Expensive

Great grinder if you can live with a little less power.

The quality of this grinder is excellent. An even grind that pulls so much flavor out of the peppercorns with a nice hand feel as you turn the grinder. A few small notes that make this less than ideal: (1) Every time you refill the grinder (which can often happen if you're a pepper lover like me), you'll need to loosen the top nut, which is also the same part is which controls the coarseness of the grind. This means you can't set, set and forget the perfect grit because every time you fill you…

Pros
  • Ebony stained wood finish gives the table an elegant look.
Cons
  • Obsolete

Heavily advertised, perhaps expectations are too high.

Bought after reading numerous reviews on various websites about good value for money. The look and feel is quite nice, but I was quite surprised to find that its functionality wasn't desirable. I spent quite a bit of time fine tuning the bean and either it was so fine that I couldn't see it (in this case it works too well) or it quickly clogged and no bean came out. The coarse grain setting seemed to work well. Also, I cook quite a bit so maybe it was underpowered as I felt like I had to top up

Pros
  • Carbon steel grinder stays sharp forever; buy once
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
