Two issues that make this ruler unusable: - It happens to be coated with a weird substance (glue?) that can't be removed, so it's not clear and hard to see - Yes, multiple thin tears on the edges (although there are no signs of wear, so the thing I received is definitely new). This makes reading scales less than convenient.

It's a line, nothing more, nothing less. It seems to be of decent quality, seems to measure correctly and looks straight. Quite easy. My only complaint is that this ruler is definitely not completely straight. I used it to draw a straight line and found that the inch side of the ruler curved outward and the centimeter side curved inward. I actually ordered two of these (one by mistake). And both came under the conditions that others have mentioned, where the ruler is covered in some kind of mottled film. They're still sharp, but it certainly clouds the view through the ruler. It wasn't a deal breaker and I kept using the rulers.
