I will change my rating if there are problems

Five stars because it's a simple product that was delivered quickly. Great value for money - two units is all I need to protect my coax (satellite and internet). If you read this review and it still has 5 stars, you may know that it has been working for me since September 13, 1919. I've had frequent problems with lightning strikes somewhere nearby shutting down TVs, DVRs, fans etc - twice in the last year. This means that every connection now has overvoltage protection from the outside. I will…

Pros
  • Easy to install

Lesson learned for surge protectors

We had a very violent thunderstorm and it grilled a Roku, an Apple TV, three cable boxes and a Samsung 6000 series TV (despite the fact that we have a networked filter had network cables for the whole house and all devices connected to the network filter). Research has shown that HDMI cables are very sensitive to electromagnetic pulses (EMP). Lightning doesn't have to strike your home for EMP to burn out all devices with an HDMI cable connected. I bought HDMI surge protectors to protect my TVs…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Very expensive

Good Insurance Policy

After losing two Xfinity Cable Boxes and an LED TV due to a recent lightning strike that impacted the cable system, I ordered these. Comcast installed an entry point device; This is not a lightning/surge protector, but a low pass filter to isolate your cable boxes from your neighbor's cable boxes using MoCA technology. VCE surge protection devices are installed in the house, Xfinity HD TV and high-speed internet work without any problems. You may want to purchase additional attachments as these

Pros
  • Good Thing
Cons
  • Fading

4 stars overall, 5 stars for the price and ease of installation as the actual surge protector is yet to be seen. Bought and installed coaxial lightning protection device VCE 2-pack for cable and satellite TV (in the line 75 ohms, 5-2500 MHz), the second protection device was left in reserve. They are NOT waterproof for outdoor use according to MGFR and must be protected from the elements. The Mgfr product page states "Note: Not used for cable modem." For more than a couple of years we have…

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Does it really work?

Last year lightning went through my DirecTV antenna via coax to a DTV receiver and then via an HDMI connector to my Panasonic Viera TV. The DTV receiver was fine but it blew all the HDMI ports on my TV which is MUCH more sensitive. Guilty. I didn't ground the dish or the coax. I fixed the TV. I also ordered this unit and installed it on the ground block along with my DTV coaxial cable. Although I witnessed the first lightning strike, I didn't see the last one. But the results were the same as…

  • Pretty impressive

Signal loss too high at 0-862MHz

This product appears to do exactly what it says on the tin: protect against surges. However, it dampens the signal in the 0-862 MHz range too much for my setup. I just installed the Spectrum 1 Gb service (actually 920 down, 44 up) and the installer said my signal was too high (+16dB). He installed a -7dB splitter to attenuate the signal. I figured -20dB for the 0-862MHz frequency band would be fine. This would put me at -4dB, still within range for the cable system. However, after installing…

Pros
  • Easy to install and remove, low insertion loss and high return loss, DC output for long-distance power supply
Cons
  • Something different

The best device insurance for your modem or cable box.

I live in Florida. That said, I live with lightning (if I remember correctly, we're the lightning capital of the North American continent). A layered surge protection strategy is essential, and these small bugs are an important part of that overall strategy. They won't stop a direct hit on their own (there's not much they can do), but they can help. I use one of these, which connects directly to my modem, in combination with a built-in RG-6 ground block with surge protection outside the home…

Pros
  • Suitable for CATV, MATV, SATV, cable networks and other communication systems. Built-in coaxial surge protection filter.
Cons
  • No instructions.
