This was my first belt, tube and tire change. This tape is highly recommended. I watched a few YouTube videos and just installed the tape. You don't have to stretch it much, just pull it slightly so that there are no wrinkles and folds. If you pull too hard, the valve hole will move as you close the circuit.

Velox is the best selling rim tape in the world. Our Trek bikes came with plastic rim tape similar to fiberglass tape. It's wide for a mountain bike rim, but the Bontrager rim's profile curls at the edge. With very low drive weights, this is usually not a problem. For an average weight rider or better, the edge of this tape will expose the inner tube. VELOX rim tape is non-slip.
