🌬️ Enhanced Airflow with Volant 12740 Cool Air Intake Kit Review

My kit was shipped and arrived in just a few days. Installation on my 2005 Xterra was quick and smooth (about 1.5 hours with hand tools). The end result is amazing - love the sound and the improved performance!

After final installation the air intake is great and nice to have there but not fun to install. No instructions are included, which would be helpful considering you'll need to move the stock horns around. Also, some necessary hardware is missing and the holes don't match.

Increased my gas mileage on my 2005 Xterra by about 1.5 - 2 mpg. Installation was easy, but it doesn't sit flush with the engine bay air intake on the driver's side. The clearance near the intake port doesn't seem to be an issue as it still gives a nice power boost. I might come back and find a way to block the entrance, but that'll do for now.

Serves its intended purpose well. I just can't give it 5 stars as all the modifications are required to fit newer models. Basically I had to redrill all the holes, bend the broken edges and of course move the horns. Volant should solve this problem and not cut a hole in the front of the new model.

I actually have a 2009 model but I ordered this model because newer models have a huge hole in the box to allow room for OEM horns. Makes no sense in a "sealed" CAI box, but makes installation easier. All you have to do is extend the 2 horn wires and rewire them under the grill. In 2008, Volant introduced a new model that had a cut out for the horn (aka the hole in the sealed box). stopped including the bracket in the older model (this model). I was able to get it to work but it took an hour to make the clamp. Otherwise I am convinced of the product. Immediate increase in performance, WOT feels great and you can really hear the difference in the air!

Literally just installed it and took the truck for a test drive - so that's just my 0.02 cents. In general, the sensations were about the same as with the included AFE intake. With two notable exceptions; 1) Volant is a much quieter air intake I think since it's a closed duct system. Still retains a low hum but not as annoying when WOT. 2) I can't verify but my butt says he lost some strength with this intake.
