Weller 7235 Replacement Soldering Pack Review

This is such a soft metal that it bends when I use a soldering iron or when I clean the end. They usually break after 2-3 uses so I ordered a replacement. At around $5 each, this $40 soldering iron is really expensive to use, and other Weller products I've used have been of even worse quality. Shame.

3.5 STARS Product does what it says on the tin and was fairly easy to install in my soldering iron. Pros > Fast delivery, easy installation, works with most soldering guns, produces a smooth solder ball. Cons: I solder a lot so it doesn't last as long as a more expensive replacement. However, I can recommend this soldering product to the average consumer as it works great.

This was the newest pack of 2 tips the seller had. I bought them. Unfortunately they are for a much smaller soldering gun than the one I needed a new tip for. I could return them but for the price I paid it won't do much. I made a new tip out of a piece of #8 solid copper wire and I'll keep the "lighter" ones for myself and eventually install them in my other smaller soldering iron!

I've gone through three of these with my soldering iron. Somehow the solder destroys part of the connection to the ferrule and then wears down the wire until the connection breaks. A tip was not even enough for 4 rations. The tip becomes extremely malleable, once you heat it enough to solder it will bend and break. I would like to know what my old soldering iron tip was made of that lasted 30 years and never had a problem. Weller needs to redesign the tips or find a solution. It's ridiculous…

If you have a 7200 gun, these are the correct nozzles. These tips will work with a Weller 8200 soldering iron, but they are not the same. As some have noted, older 8200 pistols have hex nuts instead of set screws, requiring the rear ends of the tip to be bent. This has always been the case as the bending has to be done after the nuts are fitted to the ends. It would be impossible for them to sell pre-bent ferrules without nuts.
