Warranty is worthless - WD will not honor it

The three year warranty in the description means nothing; WD won't do it. In May 2019 I bought a WD Red NAS drive from Revain. October 2019 hard drive shows unreadable sectors during copy operations. The disc has a factory production date of November 10, 2018. The description of this product on Revain's website lists a three year warranty. I tried registering the drive on the WD website and sending it in for a return but they claim it is an OEM unit and/or a 3rd party issue and the warranty has

An update to the more common dual-cache EFRX

The drive was shipped properly ESD protected and floating between the endcaps, tightly fitted in a cardboard box and enclosed in a large bubble envelope. Done correctly. This is the biggest unknown disc purchase on the internet. Produced in January 2021, it appears to be an update of the more common and popular EFRX CMR disc, renamed Red Plus. It has 128MB of cache, double that of EFRX. I'm not sure if there will be performance gains in practice. This model is too new to have published tests…

Poor warranty/RMA support

I ordered 3 x 6TB WD Red Plus NAS drives during a sale in June. Of the 3 I ordered, 2 installed successfully with no issues. When I tried to install the latest HD, the plastic surrounding the end of the SATA connector crumbled, rendering the SATA connector unusable. Since I didn't have a return period, I sent the drive back to WD for service/warranty. Instead of providing customer support, WD stated that the drive was (obviously) damaged and advised that it could: 1. Ship the drive back to me…

DOES NOT WORK FOR ME

I bought it to connect to the ASUS AC3200 router. I installed it following all the ASUS instructions. I hope I can use this hard drive to access all my files in one place. I quickly found that the computer I used to set up the hard drive was the only computer that could access files from that hard drive. My other two computers in my house can only see this drive but cannot access the files on it. This defeats the purpose of having a disk. Also, my router has a DISK HEALTH utility to check the…

NAS Red Plus 8TB manufactured January 2021

A great hard drive so far. I didn't know this NAS Plus drive runs at 7200 RPM. It can be a bit louder than 5400rpm drives, but when it is, it's not very noticeable unless you're near a PC. Disk-to-disk and network transfer speeds are excellent. After transferring large files for several hours, the temperature range remained from 90 degrees Fahrenheit at idle to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (after moving 2TB of video). I am using this drive in a standard HTPC case with no additional fans, with an…

Excellent NAS drives for data storage

I bought this drive to add as a second drive to a NAS enclosure to run a RAID 1 configuration for redundancy. Installation couldn't have been simpler: I opened the case, inserted the drive and it was recognized immediately. For the price you can't beat it. There was a time when a 200MB hard drive would have cost more. I chose this WD Red Plus drive because I've been using it for many years and it's very reliable. I have two other NAS units that use pairs of Red drives, the oldest working fine…

No, just no. for internal hard drives

Avoid, please read before buying. Longtime WD user, long enough to know when something stinks. partly because I usually buy direct from WD and know what the product looks like. I have this (1TB RED) and the first thing I look at is the date, yes all drives have a creation date. I received this CD on 3/28/19 but the date on it is 13th October 2014. first warning sign. Still not 100% against the drive who knows. can be new-old goods. A quick look at the spindle motor (pictured next to a black WD…
