4.99 per month to turn on the light!

Wink liked it as a good home node for beginners. But lately the hub could not stay up and was very unreliable. I wanted to replace it but it was a pain to reset all the lights and plugs. But since the company didn't properly diversify its revenue streams, it had to charge a $4.99 monthly fee. I had to switch to SmartThings. See you idiots!

Pros
  • Supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, Z-Wave, ZigBee, Lutron ClearConnect, Kidde
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

DON'T BUY THIS SHIT - YOU ARE BLACKMAILERS!

Imagine you are building a house and installing a heater in it. After you have lived in the house for a year you will receive a notice from the company that made the boiler/oven etc that after 1 week (or 2,3100) weeks your boiler/oven etc will stop working and you won't hook up an air conditioner or dehumidifier to it unless you pay them $$$ every month. Well that's nonsense, this company stretched out with their junk. Hey Wink, can you say CLASS ACTION?

Pros
  • All your favorite smart products connect easily in one simple app. Wink Hub does not automatically reconnect because you changed the credentials that the hub currently knows. To update these credentials, turn Wink Hub off and on again by turning it off and on again. Wait for it to start flashing purple (may take a few minutes). Then go to the Wink app's Wi-Fi Settings menu under Wink Hub Settings. Enter your new Wi-Fi credentials, click update and your Wink Hub should connect to your newly updated network!

Beware of connection problems reported here

I chose to ignore all the bad reviews warning about connection problems because I refused to believe they could be that bad. I was wrong. you are so bad My warning should have been that not only does the printed quick start guide in the box instruct you to place the hub at least 5 feet from your router, but the app itself warns you to place the hub at least *15 feet* from your device . routers. I just couldn't get the connection to work so it went back to Revain.

Pros
  • No monthly fees required
Cons
  • There are errors

Borderline Criminal Business Model

Works about half the time. It's buggy, buggy, requires reboots all the time. It takes forever to do something because it always goes round and round. Now they want $5 a month or it won't work anymore. For a product that I have already purchased. Imagine you bought a TV and used it for three years, and then suddenly you get an email saying that your TV will stop working tomorrow if you don't start paying the monthly fee . I'm expecting a class action lawsuit very soon, but it looks like they're…

Subscription Free

I bought this hub two years ago to control Sengled lightbulbs, it works fine. It's not great - not really anywhere in my house, so I can't usually use it to control downstairs lights. Now, in May 2020, Wink has sent out an email to all existing customers stating that without a $4.99 per month subscription, we can no longer use the Wink hub to control our lights. As this product is completely outdated and there are MANY MANY non-subscription hubs on the market I will be giving up my Wink hub and

Severe connection problem

I had a link hub for a few years and all of a sudden the wink app stopped supporting it. I did a little research and found out that the company that made the hub went bankrupt so it's not really Wink's fault so I bite. I have the wink center and it was awful. It simply refused to connect to my wifi and spent hours trying to figure it out. Each time it failed, it would turn purple and the apps would tell you it was because of incorrect Wi-Fi information. This is BS but keeps trying more…

Check other home automation options first

Over the past few years, this device has gotten progressively worse. It worked really well for the first year, and when it started rolling out updates last year it had trouble reconnecting. After the latest updates, it completely disconnects from the network several times a day (blinking purple - read the manual, the meaning of blinking purple is not clear). This is very annoying, especially when you use the schedule to turn on the AC unit at a specific time, then the hub turns off and your AC…

Do not buy this or Wink Hub 2

After selling the hub as a no-subscription product, they turn around and tell everyone with just a week's notice that if we don't start paying horribly inflated subscription fees every month, everything will be shut down - midway through a global pandemic. In addition, there hasn't been any hardware available for more than a year, the service is becoming less and less reliable and there are significantly more powerful and cheaper competing products. In fact, Vera offered to help port it to…
