This caused some frustration until I realized the connector pins weren't making good contact. They look like they've been distorted by something too big being inserted into them, maybe a test lead. When the conditions were right, they lost contact and shut down the extruder. ADDED: The supplier contacted me and offered to fix everything. Not necessary, but I appreciate the effort.

I love these guys. Firstly, in my experience, there are no quality worries when using ceramic cartridge heaters, and even if they burn out quicker than the average bear: a) they're quick swaps thanks to JST-SM connectors, and b) they're cheap. The first one I used started to heat up right around the JST connector (actually I could smell it) and the print ended up failing, indicating thermal runaway. The plug was actually hotter than the wire next to the cartridge heater. Looking at the specs of the JST connector used, it appears to be SMR-02V-B or something similar. The data sheet for this connector states that it is only rated for 3 amps. These cartridge heaters are rated at 40W. For a 12 volt printer, this means that at maximum…
