Description of 27.5x2.25 Trail Boss Comp Tire in Black

Tightly spaced, blocky tread minimizes rolling resistance until braking allows the knobs to truly dig in. Supportive side knobs deliver traction when trying to keep the bike upright on off-camber surfaces. Commonly used as a rear tire with a WTB Vigilante on the front. 891g. Usage: Cross-Country / Trail / All Mountain. Conditions: Dry to Damp / Hardpack to Loam. Casing: Durable. Weight: 840 grams.

Fits on my old Rockhopper, looks great.

Bought for my old custom Rockhopper from the early 90's. I mainly use it as a commuter bike, but I also like to ride light trails with it. My front tire is a slick grip commuter tire, but I keep the rear tire for trail riding. This tire fits my 26x1.95 rim.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Will not fit all

Fantastic tires! - Tires

Great tires! I live in Michigan and have ridden some rocky/rooted/muddy trails on them. Excellent grip in mud, over round rocks and on steep climbs/fast descents. Braking performance was as good as it gets. Much higher than my old tires. Exactly what I was looking for. They also had a white font which looks cool too. I wanted to use it in the rear with another WTB tire in the front (wider) but they were out of stock for my size.

  • Nice

  • Not bad but...

Will buy again

I bought these tires to replace my original tires that were on the bike as I wore them almost bare. First time using these tires I noticed that pedaling was a bit more difficult due to the larger tire size but the extra grip with these tires made up for it! I was thrilled to be able to go uphill and not lose an iota of traction compared to my previous tires. I'm not sure how long they will last, but I'm very impressed with them, at least for now.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • nothing here

High expectations of sports

Let's start with the positives: 1) good price 2) easy installation 3) good looks. And now for the minus: a strong rocking of the tires from side to side. I noticed that the side panel was made with a marriage. (Sticks out right where the WTB logo is. Looks like it's hot and mangled.) That's half the price of Maxxis (which also has the occasional quality issue). These are good value tires that I expect to last 1 season at best! Now we have to see how they handle a guarantee with a factory…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

Good solid rubber!

I've worn out these exact tires through over a season of racing, lots of play and outings with friends. I ordered them about 2-3 months ago and they are just great. While this does suggest you pair this with a grippier tire up front, I only took two of these for durability and cost reasons. I might lose some traction in the front, but that's nothing to worry about. I would suggest that if you get a pair of these when they are past half their lifespan that you swap the tires if you don't mind.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!

  • None

Heavy Tire: Cycling

Received this tire today, mounted it on my bike and ridden it in the mud and on the road. Looks like a good grippy tire. Rolls well on the road and in the mud, seems to have less rolling resistance than the WTB Velociraptors I've been using for 15+ years. However, the specified weight of 670 grams is VERY inaccurate. These are HEAVY tires. Checked the WTB website and they are listed in 900 grams. The seller needs to correct this error as one of the reasons I ordered this tire was the weight…

The tire failed catastrophically while sitting in the garage.

I've had WTB tires on at least one bike in my garage for years and no problems. Apparently my luck with this tire brand has run out. This tire was on the front wheel of my 2004 Cannondale F400 that I am renovating and I ran it up to 50psi to cruise around while I worked on the new rotors and pads. Since I got the tire on, I've ridden my bike four times, all on paved roads. I was woken up just after 6am this morning by a loud bang on the first floor. Usually a nocturnal smack means the cats…

Great Looking Tires

I fixed a 2008 Novara Aspen that had the same tires. The tires eventually switched to City Slickers but I wanted to bring the bike back to its original MTB look. It originally came with a 2.24"26" MTB Raptor which is no longer available. These tires are perfect. I can't use wider tires as they fit between the seatstays and next to the derailleur. These tires are recommended for rims with a minimum inner diameter of 19mm, but the rims on my WTB bike are 17mm. I contacted WTB and they said these…
