Zefal Bicycle Rim Tape 17mm: Durable 2-Count Pack for Optimal Tire Protection Review

I love this rim tape! I had this thin red tape on the rim of a bike I was repairing. The strings were breaking off the tape/tape everywhere and it felt like it took two laps around the rim to get full support. It was easy to assemble and felt very stable. Definitely better than before.

I can't believe it took me over 14 years to replace the original fiberglass rim tape that gave me flat surfaces because the rim tape moved to one side exposing sharp edges for a spoke. No more plates caused by rim tape! Very easy to assemble and I didn't have to cut the length for my 700c wheels. Just make sure you have the correct ribbon width when ordering. The tape also has good tack to keep it in place. I'm not sure how easy it is to remove, but hopefully it shouldn't happen for very long.

I got this for my 700x30 hybrid rims. I had to measure. They were too big. I assumed that a 17mm wide band would easily fit a 30mm rim. My rim has a ridge (perhaps a double wall?) that makes half of the inside much narrower. I applied the tape anyway, just ran it over the wall a bit. The tape itself is a heavy fabric tape. Why can rim tape be a problem at all? You wouldn't believe it but this was my third and final attempt at restoring a 35 year old Romic bike with stock aluminum wheels. This product did exactly what it was supposed to do. I covered the bolts in my new rims so they wouldn't damage the inner tube. I built a beach cruiser and bought new Nirve Wheels for it for my birthday. I added Schwalb Fat Frank tires and some inner tubes from a local bike shop. Includes two bands for (obviously) two tires. I have used it on a 700c hybrid road bike (GMC Denali) and it was enough to cover and secure the wheel. The photo of the product shows that it has a hole for the valve inlet. In my case the hole was a little far from the start which I liked because it helps you cover the whole hoop and a little more to secure it.
