Description of Zeiss Normal Planar Manual Cameras

IDEAL APERTURE WITH NINE BLADES: The finely tuned features of the optical design on ZEISS SLR lenses ensure a spectacualr bokeh, with particularly harmonious effect of the blurred areas of the image. The nine diaphragm blades and the resulting, virtually circular aperture on ZEISS SLR lenses are crucial to favorable rendition of highlights in the foreground and background. EXCELLENT IMAGE QUALITY: ZEISS lenses offer the highest possible standards in terms of performance, reliability and, of course, image quality. Quite simply, they are superior in every way. You can count on highly advanced flare control for crisp and brilliant images, and virtually zero geometric distortion, ensuring precise accuracy when reproducing shapes – especially useful when photographing products and architecture. PRECISE MANUAL FOCUS: Manually focusing a lens means controlling the image result from your fingertips. A good ergonomic design makes all the difference. ZEISS lenses stand out with their large rotation angle which enables precise focusing. Changes are immediately visible in the viewfinder. The high-quality focusing mechanism moves smoothly without play, thus also supporting the intuitive interaction with the focal plane. The precise engraving in meter and feet, and the depth of focus scale provide additional support for manually focusing. ELABORATE STRAY LIGHT REDUCTION: Rich, vibrant colors are vital to creating a lasting impression. Stray light in the lens, however, would lead to a brightening of the image, which is particularly visible in shadow areas. We combine various, elaborate techniques to reduce unwanted stray light, such as the famous ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating and a special jet black paint that is applied by hand to all lens element edges to ensure that reflections are prevented from the start.

I really like the product, it fully meets my expectations.

I have been using the lens since the fall of 2022. Used on 5D Mark II, now on 1Ds Mark III: landscapes and architecture (at f / 5.6-11), portraiture (f / 1.8-2.2). Many people compare it with Canon's "50" f/1.4, but I don't think this is entirely correct, Zeiss surpasses native glass in terms of image quality (I shot alternately with both lenses for almost a year), and the bokeh is beyond praise. A lens for thoughtful creative work. An excellent result gives only positive emotions. Definitely…

Pros
  • - branded "Zeiss" bokeh (this is his strong point at aperture from 1.4 to 1.8 and the main motive for buying); - amazing color reproduction, elastic juicy tones with excellent contrast (as a result, minimal post-processing in editors); - sufficient sharpness over the entire field of the frame without "soap" at the edges and minimal distortion; - high-quality enlightenment of optics; - electronic aperture control with focus confirmation; - impeccable design (only glass and metal).
Cons
  • Basically, rather features due to the design: - due to manual focusing at the maximum open aperture with a very small depth of field, blurring is possible, it is eliminated by using the "LV" mode or mounting it on a tripod; - pronounced "soft" effect on the open aperture; - decent chromatic aberrations at apertures from 1.4 to 1.8 (the reverse side of the coated high-contrast optics - you have to select the scene or shooting conditions); - requires the installation of very high-quality filters of the premium segment (so as not to ruin the potential of glass); - good resolution only for matrices up to 21 MP; - not for "astro" and "macro" shooting (for these purposes it is better to choose specialized optics); - the installed lens hood does not allow the use of polarizing filters. - slightly "green"; - difficult to fix (just nowhere .).

Perfect purchase for me, exactly what I was looking for!

Zeiss indicates aperture differently than other manufacturers: not in classic f-stops, but t-stops, as indicated by T * in the marking. This is a more "true" way to measure the light transmission of an optical system, because also takes into account the dimming that the lenses themselves give (they do not transmit 100% of light, but reflect and absorb it). Other manufacturers do not take these parameters into account (this is such a marketing ploy). For those who are interested in more about…

Pros
  • It was said.
Cons
  • No.

The product did not cause delight, but you can use it.

All the main advantages and disadvantages have already been described bycomlleagues, so I’ll tell you about what, for some reason, no one has. If you plan on taking pictures with a bright light source in the frame (such as an electric light bulb), you will most likely not like this lens. Because catch a full box of hares. Example: All shots showing powerful hares were taken with this lens. The rest are 21 and 85 of the same manufacturer. Even the cheap Canon 50/1.8 does better in this…

Pros
  • Excellent image quality (but see flaws and commentary). Reliability, build quality. Lack of autofocus.
Cons
  • It does not hold backlight at all.

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality is at the level, I am satisfied with everything.

Recently purchased. Used a couple of times in the studio and outdoors with the Canon EOS 7D. I liked it much more than my native Canon EF 50 / 1,4. Perfectly captures the picture of natural light. Excellent color reproduction, contrast and micro-contrast. Bokeh and drawing are top notch. No complaints about sharpness - just what you need! The workmanship is at such a high level that the Canon 24-105 f/4 l feels slightly plastic after it). When you work with him, the feeling of joy and…

Pros
  • Workmanship Optical properties: color rendition, contrast, sharpness, absence of visible XA, transmission of light pattern, bokeh.
Cons
  • There is no autofocus - but over time you realize that this is rather not a disadvantage, but a virtue. Sets up for thoughtful work.

The purchase brought only positive emotions.

This is about. manual focus! Focus is confirmed by the camera, exposure control - like all modern cameras: electronic. For a better focus in the company to this Fr. it is better to put a special superfocus focusing screen. For Canon 5D MII it is Eg-S. For a dynamic report, this Fr. not suitable, because it is a compositional tool, and not just a recording one ("We were here with Manya and Vanya .") Who does not have the time and desire to create - take pictures with "soap dishes". (Although…

Pros
  • Warranty of both Carl Zeiss and the seller (1 year). After registration on the zeiss website - 3 years.
Cons
  • Shortcomings are more likely to be revealed by photographers. A lens for thoughtful and accurate people. Who seek, try, create.

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I didnt expect the quality to be so high.

the lens is good in everything, but the optical design is the same as the mf nikon AI, AIS 1,4, enlightenment may be slightly better, nine blades in the aperture, the appearance of the lens, otherwise the lenses are similar, if you take a portrait, then as a rule it is done on open aperture or slightly covered, i. E. 1,4 or 2, while the aperture hole remains round even with seven blades, respectively, the blur is the same, everything else is from the photographer, not everyone has money for…

Pros
  • appearance, workmanship
Cons
  • price

Matches the description completely, very satisfied.

I bought it a couple of weeks ago, tested it in the store, got a copy from the BF (but it was the only one) at home adjusted the focus on the camera, since it allows you to align the lenses (canon 5DM3). , but the hole is quite working, I shot both portraits and landscapes, to say that I’m happy is to say nothing, I still have a 35th L 1,4 but Zeiss just grew to the camera, it’s a completely universal focal length, people don’t hesitate, buy if funds allow and you are not a reporter. This glass

Pros
  • Amazing picture, bokeh! above, everything has already been said about this, sharpness is where necessary, constructive, the price for such glass is quite acceptable, especially since there are very few competitors to this lens, in a word, ZEISS and that says it all !
Cons
  • Very subjectively, the lack of AF, for me this is not a disadvantage, but rather an advantage, you begin to take a more thoughtful approach to the shooting process.

The perfect purchase for me, exactly what I was looking for!

So far, I’m satisfied, in my opinion, among the autofocus competitors, the canon 50mm 1.2 is close to it, but I personally like the picture and bokeh from the Zeiss more.

Pros
  • Picture quality, and workmanship, in this case, also an electronic diaphragm.
Cons
  • Only the price can scare away from buying this lens, but zeiss is zeiss, saving is not appropriate here.

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The goods are normal, money is not wasted!

I used 50 1.4 from Canon for a long time after half a year, I sold it, the quality ceased to satisfy, after I shot it on zeiss, the difference is not great . the canon has better bokeh, but autofocus. The object is not hasty, it is better for them to shoot long-term shots, then it is winning. 85 for Zeiss gives a completely different picture, deeper soft and high quality. Therefore, I summarize, it is better to save up and take something better.

Pros
  • Aperture Workmanship
Cons
  • Lack of autofocus

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality, absolutely not expected for such a price.

I will explain why the item "long stroke of the focusing ring" is classified as both a plus and a minus. For unhurried, thoughtful shooting or video filming, this is a definite plus. Refocusing is very smooth, accurate. But for reportage, sports or children's photography, focus management will become a very difficult task. Even confirmation of focus in many cases will not save. So keep in mind. Drawing and constructive - that's what most people buy CZ for. And here few people will argue - both…

Pros
  • +Picture. Incredibly beautiful bokeh + Constructive. Made for the ages + Smooth and long stroke of the focusing ring +Metal lens hood included
Cons
  • - Lack of autofocus -Long stroke focusing ring

Matches the description completely, very satisfied.

I use it in the studio and outdoors. By chance, I have two copies that show slightly different pictures. Since the lens was originally made for Canon, there is no need to use adapter rings, etc. Provides autofocus confirmation. A long search for this lens in Hong Kong in the fall-winter of 2022 led to the disappointing conclusion that some stores carry the same specimens from point to point. Today I can say that this is the best non-autofocus fifty dollars that I own. Of the autofocus, only…

Pros
  • The design, excellent color reproduction, very good bokeh at 1.4. The mechanics are beyond praise. The lens hood impresses with its excellent workmanship, not plastic but metal, it is placed amazingly, snaps into place and does not move. Holds backlight very well
Cons
  • The main drawback, or rather, a feature - the lack of autofocus. But miracles don't happen. The second drawback to this beautiful glass is indirectly related - Zeiss does not support its lenses under warranty in the 2022. Not suitable for shooting moving objects. It is advisable to use a tripod.

A great option for this money, I definitely recommend it!

A superb lens with amazing image quality. on a fully open aperture, the lens is quite working, the background is perfectly blurred, the bokeh is very beautiful. By the way, to "experts" in optical engineering: For Zeiss lenses, the index T * means the uniformity of the color reproduction of the image given by the lens. In the film era and the use of reversible (slide) photographic films, when viewing pictures through a slide projector, there was a noticeable difference in color reproduction…

Pros
  • Excellent image quality, reliable design, brand inspires confidence
Cons
  • No autofocus. But this is not a disadvantage. but a design feature.

Everything is great except for the hood

Excellent workmanship and appearance. The only downside is the hood, which is solidly made, but cannot be used with my filters (e.g. B+W). The hood can only be attached before you unscrew the filter, which makes attaching the filter almost impossible.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • No instructions

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Incredible aesthetics

From fully open to fully closed, this lens is amazing. One thing to get used to is the length of the focus ring, going from infinity to the minimum distance feels like 2 full turns, that's how accurate your focus can be. Definitely use it with some sort of focus assist, be it automatic or visual.

Pros
  • Rugged finish
Cons
  • Quick start guide

Revainrating 5 out of 5

On my 5DII 90% of the time

This 50 is super sharp (focusing manually takes some practice), the colors reproduced are beautiful and saturated Also Zeiss optics add magic to images Depth. For a full-length digital lens, this is my absolute favorite. On the film body of the EOS3 it looks like "contax 645". Wonderful. Well done Carl Zeiss!

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings, everything is fine

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice lens, nice pictures

I shoot videos (and therefore only speak from that point of view) with a Canon Rebel T2i and bought this lens as an upgrade for my Canon 50 f1.8 II. Initially I was going to buy the Canon 50mm 1.2L, but after watching numerous video samples I settled on the Zeiss instead. What impressed me the most along those lines was the Zeiss color rendering. Canon is more red while Zeiss is more natural. The bokeh is amazing and even at f/1.4 this lens is incredibly sharp. As stated in the product…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Not bad

Revainrating 5 out of 5

If you like bokeh, this lens is for you.

I just received this lens today and I'm really happy with it. He definitely has character. The bokeh it delivers wide open almost looks like a painting - seriously, it's unrealistic. The colors are beautiful too. The only problem with it is that it's sharp even at f4+. I bought this lens used from KEH Photo and the description said "Great - almost new". I have excellent eyesight and am used to shooting with manual focus, but every photo was a little blurry no matter what I did. I don't know if…

Well done Zeiss, 5 stars.

I bought a Zeiss 50mm 1.4 about eleven months ago and have been using it regularly ever since. First I used it with 7D but then switched to 5D3. I'm not a professional, but I love to take photos. I started shooting with a 50mm FD lens during the Canon AE1 days, later I bought an EOS-1 with a 1.4-50mm lens and really liked it. Due to the high cost of film development at the time, I tried to improve my hobby by counting every shot. L, the new 100mm 2.8L IS and Zeiss 85mm 1.4. I bought a Zeiss…
