MyEtherwallet(MEW) call themselves the original etherium wallet, and a free, open source, client site toolthe wallet became so popular in space of few years, I couldn't find out specific reasons for that. But whatever it was, I just trusted them.
Creating account with them was very easy, as there are a lot of guides and tutorial videos on how to use it. Even without the guide, you will defiantly not get lost
Well didn't use it as my major wallet reason being that I love to have my assets in one place, I don't want divided attention. They only support ERC tokens. They have there private keys stored offline which makes it
Pros
- The most interesting is the way I could connect myetherwallet with the hardware trezor one wallet. This is a very great concept.
- They understood the need to satisfy the users, so the make it open source and ready to hear any suggestion or bugs noticed by users.
- There are a lot of guide on how to HSE the wallet online, making it easy to start up and users feel confidence using it.
Cons
- It strictly for ERC related token, investors in XLM, EOS, bitcoin finds it like a disadvantage.
- Swapping tokens and coins is not possible, which makes it a major disadvantage and hard to use wallet, you don't get flexibility.
- There was reports that people lost fund when some tokens where removed without any notification.
