Yes, it's an easy task, but at such a price.

Yes, easy to use, but for the price it's hard to beat, especially with the many adapters supplied. When disassembling the cylinder head, ALWAYS tap the valve spring retainer lightly with a socket wrench and hammer to loosen the retainers. If you do this and lubricate the threads it will last you many years.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old man
Cons
  • Useless functions

Don't let the low price make you think it's an inferior product!

Great tool! The price is amazing. So much so that I was blown away by how well it was made and how well it worked. I'm in the process of repairing my 2001 Nissan Frontier and can't seem to find the right tool for less than $40. This one is perfect for the app, for less than half the price! I hate that after an engine overhaul I might never have to use it again but for the price it was still worth every penny.

Used to replace valves on a 2007 Subaru SOHC 2.5

My 2007 Subaru Outback had a timing belt break causing 10 valves to be bent. I tried using a rented valve spring compressor from an auto parts store but it didn't fit properly and used a vise mechanism to compress the springs. When the tension was released, the springs and holders would bounce around the room. Ordered this to finish the job and it worked great for removing and reassembling valves in Subaru SOHC 2.5 heads.

Works as it should. suitable for tools and equipment

Wow! Working valve spring compressor for $27. First off, I have a Honda (dealer) factory valve spring tool that I usually use. When I bought it almost 20 years ago it cost a few hundred dollars. I bought this kit because I couldn't find my small (19mm) plug cup to service the 5 valve twine head. It is ideal for motorcycle / weight training. Not sure if the frame is stiff enough for a V8 head? But will probably work fine with any imported overhead cam head. It would be better to use if it had…

Instructions wouldn't hurt.

I couldn't understand it at first, but it didn't last long. I tightened it on the first valve and it started to flex. I was angry because it felt light when I took it out of the box. I started reading the reviews and found other people who had bent theirs horribly. I thought I had been ripped off. Until my dad came by while I was tightening (and bending) the tool. He gently tapped the valve stem with a rubber mallet and the valve ripped out of its seat. So if your tool bends, you're misusing…

Worked for my Subaru 2.5L, Rebuilt

Rebuilt my Subaru EJ25 '08 engine and used an 8milelake valve spring compressor with no problems. I tied the handle with twine (square knot) as it tended to fall out. Some complained about the main frame flexing during use, but I didn't have this problem. The only time I felt the crank was hard enough to turn to flex the frame was when I misaligned the valve stem with the spring washer during reassembly and everything got stuck. I applied some assembly lube I had. Hand on the threads and…
