1999 Honda Civic Sedan Great Fit.

Installed on a 1999 Honda Civic Sedan and works great. My plastic hood release had broken and had to use vice grips to pull the release. To install I had to remove the plastic kick panel and use some wire cutters to cut off some of the plastic that was leftover from the broken OEM hood release. I recall I slid on the Billet Aluminum Hood Release and tightened down the allen set screw. I didn’t go too tight as I did not want to strip the aluminum since the cable appears to be galvanized metal. It

Pros
  • Durable! Worked well!
Cons
  • Expensive for a small repair item

Good alternative for now

Like everyone else my hood release handle was broken, and I didn't want to run a new one. I bought this and after finding a video on youtube (not hard to find), I installed it. Like everyone else says, the screw will strip and you may or may not get it to stay attached to the cable. Mine is very tight, and I've opened my hood 20+ times in the past week to test it. So far it's holding strong and it's a good alternative. If something changes I will update the review.

Pros
  • Take your time when installing. It works great and it not noticeable from the original.
Cons
  • May break easily during installation

Great Replacement IF OEM handle is BROKEN

Order this unit once and could not use it because the OEM handle is not a removable part (unless you break it).Once it got cold out this season my OEM handle snapped on me. At that point I reordered this handle and with the original part broken and removed this one very easily bolted in its place. Solid part.

Pros
  • Much better than the OEM part.
Cons
  • May not be compatible with all hood latch styles or designs

Get it in red for an extra +10HPs

On a particularly cold morning my car wouldn't start so I tried to pop the hood so I could jump my battery and the pull broke right off my cable on my Honda Element. I was worried it was gonna cost me close to 50 bucks for a new cable as well as an afternoon of tinkering around upside down under my dash trying to route the new cable. Luckily someone mentioned this option and it was super easier and so far working great! The hardest part was getting the trim piece off so I could access the cable

Pros
  • Thought it was missing but was so tiny was lostin bubble wrap. Found today
Cons
  • May not function properly if the latch mechanism is damaged or worn

Installed on my old 2002 Honda Civic Coupe that I've been using a pair of pliers to open the hood on for years. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner.I bought the red version and it looks great, and is made of nice solid metal with 2 set screws to secure it to the shaft of the hood release cable.Installation took me about 15 minutes, with the bulk of that time being spent removing the body panel and, importantly, dremeling away the old plastic around the metal rod this attaches to. That's a…

Pros
  • Easy to install, didn’t come with instructions. So far so goodFit my 2001 Honda Civic
Cons
  • May not be compatible with other aftermarket hood accessories

Worked fine in my 2000 Honda CR-V

Worked fine in my 2000 Honda CR-V, just had to cut a piece of the plastic off with a pipe cutter and it fit with a little slack to be tightened with the allen head fastener and wrench that came with it. Also, for those that need a visual, check Eric O's video on his South Main Auto channel on youtube where he installed one on his Honda Civic.

Pros
  • Missing parts with first one. My replacement worked great!
Cons
  • May require custom fabrication to install properly

It does the job: my feedback

Thankfully I found a video on YouTube about how to install this. Once I had it on it works really well & feels far sturdier than the original.

Pros
  • Great product. Pain in the butt to install.
Cons
  • May not fit properly if the hood latch has been altered

Thread Stripped on my review.

The treads on the set screw stripped right out when trying to tighten it enough where you couldn’t just pull it off. Now it is broke and can not be used.

Pros
  • Easy fix!!!!
Cons
  • May require disassembly of the entire hood system

Great alternative to buying the entire cable assembly

Great alternative to buying the entire cable assembly! Took me a little over 15 minutes to install this. On a 98 Civic, remove the kick panel (Simply held on with 2 clips). Use a 10MM socket to remove the bracket. You have to remove a portion of the plastic shaft leftover from the old handle that was broken off. I chose to use a small copper pipe cutter to do this. You can use whatever is handy. Slide off the old portion, and slide the new on. Tighten the set screw and put it all back together.

Pros
  • Contains:Billet Aluminum Repair Handle,2 set screws, hex key Allen wrench.
Cons
  • May not be compatible with all aftermarket hood accessories

2002 Honda Civic EX

2002 Honda Civic EX - this product is 100% better than the OEM. Quality made billet. Install is a bit tricky. To properly install this product you have to take off panel and hood latch lever completely. Use a pipe or tube cutter, score the very hard plastic the proper depth and remove, to slip this very nicely made product on. I used thread locker on the set screw for added security. This is a great upgrade replacement part.

Pros
  • Durability yet to prove
Cons
  • May not match the style of the vehicle's original hood latch

Works well best in my review

Feels good to the touch. One thing I have noticed though is the little set screw hex head is indeed easy to strip so as I read other peoples reviews on here I was half expecting it and didn’t crank down on it hard. But other than the hex head needing better design, it’s a good product to avoid yourself from replacing the entire cable

Pros
  • easy install. great solution. although came with no instructions. still very easy to install.
Cons
  • May not solve the problem of a hood latch that won't release

Much easier than replacing the whole brake cable

Doing this replacment took about 15 mins, a few minutes to cut some plastic, and then it bolted on without issue and has worked fine since installed. Loved finding this fix.

Pros
  • Replacement Parts
Cons
  • May require specialized knowledge or tools to install properly

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Needs a pipe cutter

When my release button broke, I thought my car a goner. This was easy enough to fix, even for a girl (which I am). Just make sure you have a pipe cutter handy!

Pros
  • The installation was easy
Cons
  • May not solve the underlying issue with the hood latch

Easy Install best in my review

Better than the plastic one that broke. This one is aluminum so I know it will not break again and should last a long time. I would recommend using a dremmel to cut the plastic as that is would made this install easy.

Pros
  • I ordered this after i got my car and it was missing the handle it was an exact fit and I love the color
Cons
  • May be prone to breaking or failing over time

Far Superior to Original

This is aluminum, not plastic like the original. Installed in around 10 minutes- unclipped mouldings, removed cable plastic with Dremel and pliers, screwed on new release lever, snapped mouldings back on-DONE!

Pros
  • Worked great
Cons
  • Only fits select years of specific Honda models

Part is better then the original due to it being metal!

Received the part promptly with no problem.Part is better then the original due to it being metal!I like the idea of only replacing just the latch not the whole cable, did the work at -20 below.Biggest issue I had was getting the cover off to get at the old latch due to the cold.Installed the new latch with no issues. The work only took me a few minutes once the cover was off.

Pros
  • Replaced a broken one on my son's 04 Civic and it seems much nicer than the original plastic one.
Cons
  • May come loose during driving or offroading

fit 2005 Honda Civic

The way the old handle broke off, I had to cut the remaining plastic on the cable half way and pull it off. The new handle then fits on the cable. The included hex key is soft and took some effort to take out of the screws once I tightened them. Not a huge deal as I don’t intend to remove the handle again

Pros
  • Love it
Cons
  • May not function properly in extreme temperatures

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Extremely simple to install

Installed this in my 1997 Honda Civic. The car had no hood lever latch whatsoever. Decided I was tired of pulling my cable with pliers and invested in this. Install took a bit of time because the cable had this rubber around it but once it was peeled back the install of this product was straight forward. The kit DOES provide a small hex key (Allen wrench) in order to install it.

Pros
  • Tough to get original part ready to accept this part
Cons
  • May be difficult to locate if lost or misplaced

Threads strip easy: my feedback

This looks like a quality part and being that the original is plastic and this is metal I expected it to be much better and last a long time, went to install it and as I was tightening the nut it striped the threads on the handle clean. I wasn’t even tightening that much they give you a tiny Allen wrench that is only about 3 inches long so you can only get it so tight anyway. I am returning this item and will look at just getting a factory replacement. I suppose if you just barely tightened it…

Pros
  • Was a little smaller than expected but it does the job. Just ensure to strip the plastic from the metal.
Cons
  • May not function properly in extreme environments

Its works.: my feedback

Did exactly what I purchased it for, only issue was I stripped out the set screw first thing. I can't take it off now but its tight enough to function so works for me.

Pros
  • Fix my 2000 Honda civic
Cons
  • May not come with instructions for installation
