Great smart thermostat except for geofencing

Great smart thermostat except for geofencing. This feature works with your mobile phone, which recognizes when you leave the house to turn off the thermostat and turn it back on when you return, but only works with a mobile phone. The problem is that a cell phone leaves the room but there are still people in the room and the thermostat turns off.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Available in white only

Unfortunately I have to advise against it.

At first I liked my new Ecobee thermostat. But now I realized that they are forcing me to use a 'feature' called eco+ and thereby take control of my thermostat settings! You can only use the iOS app if you agree to the use of eco+. This is to allow them to make changes in temperature etc depending on the load on the power grid. Does it look like they're in bed with some energy companies? Many users on the net complain about it. Ecobee claims that you can disable this feature after agreeing to…

so you don't have to spend money on a full-fledged thermostat

I got it to replace my Nest Gen. 3 when changing the air conditioner. Nest was no longer compatible with 16 Seers with 2 heating/cooling speeds, heat pump, auxiliary heating and emergency heating. After some research I settled on Ecobee3 Lite. Most home air conditioners don't have humidifiers, dehumidifiers, or fans, so there's no reason to spend money on a fully-functional version. Also, the only difference from 3 and 4 is the built-in Alexa. Ecobee3 Lite integrates well with my Smartthings…

The support is terrible. You don't honor the guarantee.

Support is terrible. You don't honor the guarantee. I bought 3 Ecobee Lite for my home. After 3 months one block started to fail. I called support and although they could see the issues from a distance they denied if the problem was theirs. I showed them how the readings of the device differ from the readings of an autonomous room thermometer. They said the other thermometer must be wrong. They asked me to install a remote sensor next to the Ecobee. After collecting data for a few weeks, I…

Problems with installation, otherwise excellent thermostat.

Wanted to change the rating to 4 out of 1 because I figured out how to hook it up. Ecobee customer service eventually contacted me about installing this product, but in the end my oven's control board didn't even have a C-wire connector. Finally I connected it to a 24V power supply coming from a transformer. Ever since I installed it I've been very happy with it. It's always on and stays connected to WiFi with no connectivity issues. It works well with my Echo Dot and Alexa can find my Ecobee…

Reconnection problem in case of power failure

Last August I bought and installed an EcoBee 3 in combination with a brand new oven. The block is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California where temperatures drop well below freezing at night. This is a home away from home and we've been away for weeks. In the past we have simply set our thermostat at 50 degrees which has avoided freeze pipe problems in the 25 years we have owned this property. For the past few days I've been trying to connect to the thermostat via the internet to…

Don't buy if you want to use an adapter.

I bought this product in mid-November. I got this particular one because it came with an adapter to convert the 4 wire houses to the 5 wire houses that this thermostat requires. Worked fine until it cooled down. We live in Minnesota and it's cold here. Since Christmas Eve the thermostat has been resetting for a few hours or just turning itself off. He kept coming. But for a few days it was 57 ° in the house in the morning. Then on New Year's Eve, when it was 15 frost outside, it went out and…
