Cheap expensive - 1 set buy 1 time and be HAPPY

When I think of all the years of struggling with horrible, cheap Chinese junk and all the annoyances and headaches caused by a crappy instrument, it depresses me. I don't need snap ring pliers often, but when I do I do is the last thing I will ever struggle with again, poor quality tools that make the job difficult or impossible! I just used them the other day and was sooooo happy and grateful. I think I replaced the extra snap rings just for fun. An investment for life.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • The list will be long.

I've tried many snap ring pliers and these are the best I've ever used.

I am a farmer and we do most of our mechanical work including some retaining rings. My dad has a signature set he bought in college 45 years ago and it works really well. Otherwise we have bought many sets, from cheap to branded ones, even the same brand as Dad's old set. Most break after a few uses, and they all frustrate us. I've had them for a few months now and every time I use them I can't believe how they just bite into the retaining ring and never slip off. I will be purchasing a second…

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Thin

After using different pliers and hating them all.

After using many snap ring pliers and hating every set I have used, I stumbled upon these. The price was a little hard to swallow, but one thing I learned a long time ago: NEVER SAVE ON TOOLS. At Knipex you get what you pay for, period! With a pair of pliers, you can be absolutely sure that the locking ring you're holding in your hands won't fly through the entire magazine and gouge your eye out. The tips are machined by the pliers themselves instead of the awful detachable tips. And if that…

Pros
  • Quality Construction
Cons
  • Some Cons

They're expensive, but they work. From experience, snap rings come off in two ways: easy or hard. For years I struggled a lot with K&D snap ring pliers with replaceable tips - at least they always worked. I recently had a large locking ring that has been struggling with me for days. K&D weren't big enough, so I bought what I thought were a better pair - they were better, but they didn't do the job either. At the edge of my rope, I opened my Knipex wallet; arrived and everything was over…

Pros
  • Heavy duty for continuous use - up to 10X longer life than machined tips
Cons
  • Expensive

Why would anyone buy such expensive pliers?

Because they work. These pliers have the word "precision" in their name to differentiate them from the standard product which has external springs, socket terminals and machined tips. These pliers have adjustable joints, internal springs and spring wire tips. The tips are not interchangeable, they are pressed. If you've worn out a pair of spikes (hasn't happened to me yet), you've made use of your $25, go ahead and buy another pair. The tips are beveled outwards on outer ring pliers and inwards

Pros
  • The tips are made of high-density spring steel and offer a high level of protection against excessive stress and deformation
Cons
  • Some insects

Do yourself a favor and avoid cheap crap. Got it!

One use while servicing my Kubota's front axle and my old Craftsman set with detachable tips went straight into the bin. Allegedly, a number of masters could do extra. Rings on shafts up to 2" (51mm). Ha, right! This shank was 1 5/8" (41mm) and there was no going away no matter how many times I tried, no matter what tips I used or how I had them installed. I chose this Knipex set after reading many Had read reviews here and elsewhere saying that a pair of solid needle nose pliers is the only…

Pros
  • Eight best selling Knipex snap ring pliers in one set including a foam tool tray
Cons
  • Crumpled
