Description of Quartex Quartz Movement Maximum Thickness

Quartz Clock Movement Kit: This clock mechanism is perfect with its clock parts for repairing, replacing, or making your own DIY clock project. The clock movement design keeps foreign matter out of the gears, resulting in years of trouble-free operation. Clock Movement Measurements: Total hand shaft length is 22.2 mm (7/8 inch). Total shaft diameter is 7.9 mm (5/16 inch). Maximum Clock Dial Thickness: 11.1 mm (7/16 inch). Refers to the thickness of the combined material (clock face material and support board the dial is mounted to) that the threaded length of the movement shaft travels through. The hardware adds 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) making the total length of the threaded bushing 12.7 mm (1/2 inch). For finding a replacement, measure the threaded portion of the shaft on the old clock movement. If length is shorter or equal to 12.7 mm (1/2 inch), this is suitable. Clock Hands Measurements: Total black spade hour and minute hand length is approx. 63.5 mm (2 1/2 inch), total red second hand length is approx. 69.9 mm (2 3/4 inch). The Q-80 movement will have a step motion that creates a ticking sound, powered by an AA battery. Package Contents Include: One easy to assemble quartz clock movement, one hour hand, one minute hand, one second hand, and hand mounting hardware.

It works great and was easy to install

It works great and was easy to install. The seller provided a printed detailed installation guide. It also came with the necessary washers, nuts and clock hands; However, I was able to use my existing watch hands. The most important thing to know when purchasing the 'right' size (to replace a watch movement) is to measure the threaded portion of the shank and know the thickness of your dial. It's better to buy a longer stem and add rubber washers between the movement and the back of the dial…

great replacement for repairing a broken watch

I was surprised that there is an industry standard for this movement and it was fairly easy to remove the old one and put the original watch hands on the unit. The attachment to the watch case was a bit different, but if you have some manual dexterity it's not a problem. It's been working fine for a few months now, I'll update if there are any issues as I expect it to last for years (the original worked for about 10 years and eventually stopped responding to oil.) Just keep an eye on the…

Pros
  • delivery was very quick
Cons
  • small item

Update: Less than a year after purchase (but used less than 3 months) the device has failed. The original as I said in my original comments lasted 5 years so this one is inferior to the original. New battery and contacts from the battery to this mechanism, all clean and good connections by the way. According to the product description there is a 10 year guarantee, so I'll see if that's true now! --------------------------------------------------…

Surprisingly unreliable Quartex Q-80 Movement by Quartex

Bought an exact replacement Quartex Q-80 to replace the same model that has been in service for over 6 years, 1/2" thick and 15/16" tall . hand shaft length. The item arrived quickly with a very good protective cap with a threaded stem to avoid damage in transit. Decided to run this new movement with the new hands for 24 hours before installing it in the watch case; Just so it doesn't get too loud. Interestingly, the supplied hour hand, which is a press fit, was smaller and did NOT fit the hand
