"disconnected " - actually a complete connection error

worked fine until a slight tug caused the internal connector to move. See attached pictures. I had two and this happened with a subtle jolt. Then I looked at the second one and by pulling the cable slightly, the other connector also shifted. I'm actually glad to see other reviewers saying the same thing. **Update - I sent an email with photos and proof of purchase requesting warranty support and SanDisk sent me replacement units. SanDisk Extreme 510. They gave instructions on how to remove the…

Pros
  • Good assembly

  • Without instructions

Sandisk secures a really good external hard drive

Every time I think I've found an external hard drive solution, I'm always very disappointed. It usually starts with a device failure, after which the IT specialist tells me that I have no doubts about recovering the data. I was particularly disappointed when I paid extra for a more durable product (some drives are MIL-SPEC compliant for drop, shock, and vibration resistance) and they still fail. I've tried different brands and it doesn't matter. And most guarantees don't extend very far into…

Pros
  • Finally bought it
Cons
  • A bit torn

AVOID! If you already have one, BACKUP YOUR DATA IMMEDIATELY!

Same problem as many other customers here, after 3 months of owning the drive and using it maybe 10 times in total, the USB connector on the drive has come loose from the case. I understand there may be differences in durability due to hidden manufacturing issues, but this is the lowest quality hardware I've seen from a major brand. Given the number of affected devices and the apparent mean time to device failure, I find it hard to believe the device underwent any quality testing. After this…

Pros
  • Special Offer
Cons
  • No

I am a cautious buyer and I read reviews carefully before I hit the buy button. But was impacted by the overwhelming amount of positive feedback. Well guess what happened to me. The device arrived, I plugged it into my computer to try it out and after about an hour of experimenting I unplugged it from the computer. I then tried to unplug the USB cable from the device and it quickly got stuck. I pulled a little harder and the entire USB 3.0 connector ripped out of the device, still connected to…

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Buy a disc, but discard the cable that came with it.

This drive is very fast when copying files between separate networks. I was concerned by the reviews that suggested the port's mechanical connection would fail. Other reviews noted the strength of the connection with the cable inserted. Seeing the connection between these two issues, I ordered the Cable Matters 2 Pack, SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Type A to Micro-B 6ft Blue Cable at the same time I bought the drive. The supplied cable is of course too big and requires too much effort when plugging it in.

Pros
  • A Dream Come True
Cons
  • Too Long To Wait

Great until it dies, which is too soon.

Ordered November 2015. It broke for me today due to the "disconnection" of an internal component connecting it to the hard drive. I babysat this thing for almost a year and never had any problems until it died completely. It hasn't been extensively tested, so it will only have a short lifespan until SanDisk decides to update the component based on negative feedback and customer experiences. I wouldn't trust the design of this drive no matter how much it costs.

Pros
  • While everyone likes it
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

The USB connector on the SandDisk 3 SSD breaks VERY easily!

As a writer and photographer for a major magazine, I bought several of these to use in the field. They seemed perfect for what I was looking for. Small, strong, fast and safe. For the first time I got lucky with them. So much so that I bought three more. However, after about eight months of use, one of the connectors on the hard drive itself came out with a USB 3 cable when I unplugged it. I very rarely unplug the cable from the drive itself as I usually just leave the cable plugged in. The…

THREE STAR PRODUCT, 5 STAR CUSTOMER SUPPORT

I purchased a 240GB Extreme 500 Portable SSD on sale in November 2015 for only $79.99. 3.0 and every subsequent login behaved as if it was the first use: I had to accept the end user license agreement and then I was told that the Secure Access Store was already installed and asked if I wanted to use it or not. Also, Windows 10 started warning me twice every time I log in that the device is corrupt and I need to run CHKDSK (don't do that). Support asked me to back up all files, erase everything…
