very handy for hand tools

I used to have a red version of this tool from another supplier and someone in my house wanted it so it was gone. I like this one better as the lid snaps tight and has a pocket clip. I bought 4 more for my friends and family. The tool works very well if you need a quick sharpening or an edge be careful as it can take a lot of steel from your blade. thank you amazon, as always you are very good.

Compact, quick and easy.

I only bought it to polish my favorite but commonly used Nepali Khukuri (incorrectly called Kukri in the West). I've found the finishing edge works great on all types of edges, especially convex edges. After experimenting with Sharpal, I also found that it reprofiled the edge quickly as well. This saves a lot of time when using a coarse stone or some kind of mechanical grinder. While it's certainly NOT the "only sharpener you'll never need" this is the best carbide sharpener I've ever seen and…

Excellent but surprisingly brittle

A little less than a year has passed, the carbide has broken off. I don't know how that happened - I'm a generally tidy person and used to *just* sharpening kitchen knives and scissors, tinting razors. No garden tools. My guess is that this may have happened with old Japanese kitchen knives with broken blades (Japanese knives have harder steel). You can also use a good left-handed carbide tip (because I'm a little symmetrical). Since there is no preset edge angle, it can be used to sharpen…

Maybe it's me: Hand tool

Before I bought it, I watched the video and then tried it out. Maybe it's just me and I'm using it wrong. This thing makes no sense no matter how I use it. According to the packaging, the rough edge is for honing and the hard metal edge is for sharpening. First of all I'm no genius but I don't understand how a shiny slippery surface can sharpen something and it failed. So I tried using a rough edge and it didn't get much better. I went back to the video and it seemed to be using the shiny…

Just received and works great

I just got this thing. and it works well when reprofiling a slightly blunt edge. He doesn't take a dull blade and sharpen it to perfection. However, if you use this consistently and don't overstress your knife, you should be able to use your knives well for a long time before traditional (i.e. stone) re-sharpening is required. After using it on about 6 knives, I see very small scratches on the carbide, which I think is unavoidable, otherwise the carbide surface is mirror smooth. hard to do. I…

Forget the lid.: Power & Hand Tools

Luckily the lid wasn't secured when I first opened the package. This small suction cup can be sharpened with just a few strokes of a knife. The polishing part, well I haven't figured it out yet; but with a razor blade I figured it out in the blink of an eye, and who needs to sharpen it. Another thing is the fit of the cap. I don't understand how a person with small hands could remove this cap without pliers or jamming a screwdriver in the gap between the cap and the sharpener. If you can only…

It's time to sharpen all things!

Nothing is more annoying than buying a pair of secateurs that gets boring at the end of the day. At least for me, since our green is running out. So after I bought our third secateurs, I finally sat down and looked at them and realized I could just sharpen the damn things. I plunged into the abyss of online shopping and stumbled upon this handy little device among the endless Revain warehouses. I'm personally used to large whetstones or kitchen knife sharpeners, but to be honest I didn't…

Add lanyard to cap

Discussion: I have bought a few different sharpeners mainly for sharpening Zenport 300 series sickles. Other sharpeners I have bought were Sharpal 103N ALL-in- 1, Sharpal 112N and Corona AC8300. The reason I bought this (and the Corona) was because the larger Sharpals will NOT work with the curved blade on my Zenport K315 sickle (it works with the K311 which has a much smaller curved blade). These large sharpeners work well with straight blades (axes, machetes, etc.). Pros: Large polished…

King of Tungsten Carbide Hand Sharpeners

There are many sharpeners on the market, like the 105N, that use a tungsten carbide tip that you guide along the edge, but Sharpal is probably the cost leader. ribbons. The entire sharpening and honing component is made of tungsten carbide, while almost all such products use a small block of material that is welded (brazed?) to another piece of cheap metal. For a knife that might work well - at least for a while - but try something hard like an ax or a lawnmower blade and it's likely to fall…
