This aftermarket Kenmore 14911 filter is a poor replacement for the original. The Kenmore 14911 filter is an OEM version of the Sears brand Essick HDC-12, also available under the MoistAir brand. I have relatively hard water with minerals although calcium is low. It takes about a month for a crust to form on top of the filters, where most evaporation occurs. Even with a crust, the filters will last longer than original Kenmore filters. These replacement filters are better than Sears Original Equipment filters. After reading some reviews saying they didn't work as well as the original filters I didn't want to try them but I'm glad I did. These filters are much more durable than paper filters. In terms of humidity, I don't see any difference; I fill my water bottles at the same rate as before. Living up north my stove doesn't come on as often on warmer days in the winter months and my radiators don't dry out the air as quickly.
