Lost the ability to play DVDs; Note for The Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray

This player plays Blu-ray discs reliably (at least for me). I'm using the latest firmware and recently the player stopped playing DVDs. This problem appeared while playing the disc - it started with glitches and finally the message "disc cannot be played" appeared. Now when I insert a DVD I get a horrible error message - no DVDs fit me. I'll reapply the firmware update and see if it helps, but my experience seems to be the same as many others here. When the player is running (which it usuallyโ€ฆ

OK as long as it worked on Blu-ray players and recorders

Bought this player in late November 2008 with a Samsung 52" HD LCD TV. As expected, it ran a bit slower than a regular DVD player, but not bad. The picture and sound quality on the Blu-ray discs was very good, although I didn't try to make many comparisons. Traditional DVD upconversion was better than expected. In some cases, a certain Blu-ray disc won't play normally. But that was easily fixed by updating the firmware. Everything was fine until last week. A couple of times I tried to play aโ€ฆ

Good price for its time

I bought this model in January 2009. All in all I'm very happy with it and for the time it was a good price. The picture quality is excellent. Unlike other browsers, I've never had any problems playing DVDs or Blu-rays. I never updated its firmware. Its cons are: 1) Everything about it is slow: loading movies, responding to the remote (especially fast forward, god it's slow), shutting down. Newer models should be faster. 2) The STOP button is dangerous. If you accidentally press it, the entireโ€ฆ

I love this cheap Blu-ray player!

I bought this player about a month ago and am very happy with it. I was dying to watch Blu-ray on my new 52" Samsung LCD, but I just didn't want to pay for an expensive player like the PS3. I've only had a few very minor issues with this player which is why I'm giving it a 5 star rating for its value. I've never had any problem playing Blu-ray disc or standard DVD and I've probably watched about 20 Blu-ray discs. The only glitches I've encountered are: 1) When I first turned this player on aโ€ฆ

Excellent technical support is a key component

This is a very reliable turntable at a great price. Read a mostly positive review and I will support those sentiments. Yes, the front display is too dim and the remote control is cumbersome. But it loads quickly and offers a lot for a small price. Important to remember: A DVD player is basically like a toaster oven; The Blu-ray player is like a computer. It takes a lot of horsepower and good programming to decode a disc and show all the ins and outs. This is why many players are so slow orโ€ฆ

If all goes well then this player will be superb

Well, first of all I should say that I've skipped Blu-ray because of the price and the completeness of the format. Currently, this player does not support 2.0 profile, but it supports 1.1. Samsung has promised support for 2.0 in a future firmware but there are conflicting reports about it and the box has the BD Live Ready logo on it. Regardless of whether Samsung is false advertising or not, I'm going to get my hands on the 2.0 profile player one way or another. BUT as for the player, yes, youโ€ฆ

Great price - I'm happy

This is my first Blu player. I bought it because the price wasn't too high (got it for less than $225) and I trust Samsung. Having sold Samsung at a previous job I know it's a quality product at a decent price and I'm not paying too much for a name. I've had several of their products as well, as have a few of my friends who have had no problems. I found that when I connected it to my TV via HDMI (sold separately), the sound quality improved significantly compared to the previous connectionโ€ฆ
