Junk Document Scanner

The weather alert channel requires you to actively turn on the audio report when you hear the alert tone. The device continues to transmit and requires the alarm to be silenced after the report has been heard. Programming is gross - entering a specific frequency is impossible if the device does not recognize the entered frequency and instead rounds up to what it believes to be the actual frequency. A complete waste of money. Too bad he didn't listen to critical reviews. Don't waste your money…

Pros
  • Same as everything before
Cons
  • Something different

They could do worse for document scanners

UPDATE: I was able to get the channel blocking to work after a hard reset. You can find out how to do this in the instructions on page 22. Better now. I can scan the whole area and the lock function works again. Previously, there was no confirmation "beep" and no blocking of a noisy channel in VFO seek mode (Tune). It's still terrible at 400-500 no matter what antenna you use, but after a reset it works much better with air and police/fire. I bought one of these and hooked up a great external…

BASIC scanner with AM/FM radio

My husband picked this out for my dad and he LOVES it! My dad is in his early 70s and has poor eyesight but he can read the buttons on this scanner and the scanner itself is easy to use! It sits on the table in his TV room and runs from the time he wakes up until he goes to bed. He loves to! If you are just looking for a basic scanner that is EASY to use, then this scanner is for you.

lots of noise - scanner

Product works but lots of noise. I called the company and couldn't fix the problem. Please refrain from sending another device, I hope this really works. Have a Radioshack desktop scanner on the same channel, clear as a bell. Therefore it is a whistle. The second block has the same problem. These Amazons sold and executed are bad blocks. Piper can't help!

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

First of all it is an analog scanner which means if you want an APCO25 and barrel scan this scanner is not for you. However, the Whistler WS1025 does a great job with the right antenna to monitor the aviation band and receive on the 400MHz band. Programming is easy. The ideal price and 300 channels for monitoring civil and commercial aviation at a great price!

Great scanner to buy and enjoy

The scanner is great and you can select different stations like weather, police, emergency services and some public stations and please note that it is possible when you are near burger King live at the station you can hear people ordering food and if you live near the airport you can hear everything so I would highly recommend this scanner.

  • Nice packaging

DOES NOT ACCEPT car-to-car transfers

Very easy to program. Has almost no reception power, can pick up some transmissions from police/fire base stations, but is either VERY clumsy or mobile devices are unresponsive. Frustrating because mobile units give latitude/longitude of fires. I was hoping that handhelds had gotten better over the past 20 years, but that's not the case. Many years ago my father had a pocket computer, it wasn't the best either, maybe good for the city, but in the country where the police/fire brigade radios for

Pros
  • Stationery
Cons
  • There are nuances

We are a Georgia airport and need to control ATCT ground and tower transmissions. The look, feel and value of this scanner is great. The reason I only give it one star is because the 9V adapter is not flush with the plug-in. The service representative who installed this equipment was electrocuted because the connector was not securely connected to the scanner. See photos. The plug is inserted as far as it will go in the photo. I see no way to contact the seller and would hate to return it just…

Works great for a while

UPDATE 10/21/2019. I have not used this scanner for more than ten weekends and only worked a few hours a day. Yesterday I discovered that this scanner has a crackling static noise that I thought was coming from somewhere in my area, so a higher NR CONTROL setting is required. Today I noticed that about 15 minutes after turning on the scanner the same thing happens which caused the RED FLAG to go off. and so I unplugged the antenna and found to my surprise that the "noise" was still there…

Easy Scanner Setup

We ordered a Whister WS1025 Desktop Analog Scanner for our son for Christmas. A few days after I placed my order, my husband accidentally dropped our 25 year old Radio Shack scanner and broke it. I have ordered another one of this scanner for us. Both arrived a few days apart. Very fast. Husband set up quickly, we like the sound. This scanner holds frequencies that our old scanner couldn't. My husband set up our son's scanner, put it back in the box and wrapped it up. A few days later I asked…
