Overall works well but also a lot of disappointment!

I bought this in January to use with my new Dell Dimension 800MHz computer. My intention was primarily to make music CDs from files taken from them. and the same. The installation wasn't too difficult for me either, since I didn't have a PC at home (don't do something like that in the office). My first attempts at creating CDs were successful and I was very happy with the product. But then I got more bad burns than good ones. The roller coasters started piling up and I was getting quite…

A GOOD DEVICE AFTER A JUMPER

Like many others, I agree that the basic instructions could have been written better. The software was installed without any problems. I just couldn't get the thing to burn. HP called and they ran me through an extensive computer setup, starting with "MY COMPUTER" ie Device Manager, "CD-ROM" properties settings, then BACK to My Computer, Properties, Performance, Filesystem, Hard Drive , cd. -rom, graphics, all underwent some adjustments. We also went into the control panel, clicked on display…

It works fine but I had many problems.

Bought as a gift for a girl who has an HP laptop. I'm a techie and have a lot of experience installing things like this. The initial installation was problematic after the 8230 drivers were installed and the laptop's internal CD stopped working. HP tech support tried to get it to work but I ended up reinstalling Win 2000. It really sucks. The HP "MyCD" software is not that good. Haven't tried Adaptec yet, but plan to. I tried using newer 80min/700mb CDR media and all I got was coasters galore…

READ Waste of time and money!

READ: I gave the burner 1 star because Revain didn't have a "No Star" list. Burner works very poorly, often freezing and forcing you to turn OFF your computer several times during the installation process. If you don't like complicated settings and programs, don't buy this product, it's a terrible excuse for a recorder, it's slow and not a good buy for an external recorder. If you want more options with CDRW, take the time to get a reliable internal recorder, they are faster and better overall.

Good device for beginners

Even if I had some problems with this device, I still find the price-performance ratio good. I had this thing and was up and running in minutes thanks to its plug and play capability. At the time I had the previous "My CD" software. The CR-R that came with the recorder was not working so HP had to be contacted. I got a "High Speed Media" error and I'm not too happy about it. With the help of a tech (we all agree they need the 800 number) this was resolved by simply going into "options" and…
