We live in an area known for large strawberry farms. There are many of them for several months. Aside from the grocery store, they are available from any number of street stalls that pop up every year. Picking yourself is a popular option at several large stores, not only because the berries are very cheap, but also because it's a fun way to spend the day with family and friends. We have processed LOTS of strawberries over the years. Although I'm most skilled with a paring knife, this strawberry stalk tool has its perks. Obviously this is a great, safer choice for small volunteers. For that reason alone, I'll keep a few of these tools handy. However, there are several reasons why this tool will never replace my knife. Most importantly, I'm faster, but I don't just cut strawberries into quarters either (I use them cut horizontally as well as halved and whole). Not all berries have the same consistency, the tool tends to crush less hard berries. I would recommend this to people with kids who want to get involved, people who only occasionally handle a pint or so, and people who lack knife handling skills.
