Seems well made. Used once to drag the dock onto a 5 degree coast. The 500 pound estimate is incorrect as it only applies when the spool is almost empty and the effective diameter is small. I started clicking the clutch limiter quickly. Another issue is that the entire unit twists in your hand under load as the cable is wound on the spool asymmetrically. This last issue limits the amount of cord you can pull in, and I didn't have the strength to hold the device upright (I'm a big guy). You really need to bolt the winch to a solid surface, at least temporarily. This thing might have a £8,000 mechanical price tag, but it wouldn't be useful. sent back.
