MERV is the international standard for evaluating such filters. The MERV scale goes up to 16 (at the time of this review), and 13 is the highest rating for home use. The difference between MERV12/13 for domestic use is negligible and in any case some older ovens may have problems with MERV 11+ filters. This is because the higher the rating, the thicker the filter and the harder your oven has to work to force air through it. MERV 12 filters out almost everything but the smallest particles (e.g. bacteria/viruses and smoke). The addition of charcoal filter to MERV 8+ can filter out smoke/bacteria (but NO viruses), but the product in question (pleated MERV 12, no charcoal) does not have additional charcoal filtration. If this value ($40 for x6) is obtained for these filters and evaluated by MERV, it is excellent. Filter out higher charges for filters with a similar MPR (native unit of measure) rating. Before use, store the filters in a dust-free place (in the box). They are not individually wrapped. If stored correctly, this is not a problem.
