I bought a '97 Ford Ranger because I thought it would be useful. But on the rare occasions I needed it, it cost me insurance money here in Michigan, about $60 a month, plus yearly registration. I chose to just park it complex and haven't used it on the street in years. But I don't remember changing the oil as it has only done about 1000 miles on synthetic oil. What I didn't know is that most of these filters can rust even if they contain oil. (it was apparently rusting from the outside in) The filter started to leak right at the seam where the canister attached to the mounting flange. I lost a quart of oil driving it through a rear field before realizing it was engine oil and not power steering fluid.
