My check engine light stays on with this cover. I had to reset the old one to make the light go out. The problem with the old one is that the strap that dangles the cap when topping up the gas broke. That's why I bought this one. Every time I put a new one in, about a quarter of the tank is enough and the light comes on. I put the old one in and the check engine light went out. I first had the auto repair shop check the Check Engine light codes when they came on. The code was the evaporator system and said to check the gas cap. The old one came on and the light went out
