Review on πŸ”€ Bytecc Mini N-WAY SWITCH: USB Bus Powered 10/100 mbps (RoHS Compliant) by Sean Sheppard

Great for an entertainment center

For a number of years I've been considering changing my home network to use more wired ethernet connections instead of relying on WiFi. I live in an apartment and the sheer number of nearby hotspots I see made me think I could improve my connectivity significantly by switching to wired connections. But I didn't want to add another power supply to the stack already behind my TV. From the description this USB power bank looked good although I was not familiar with the brand. (Basic ethernet switches can't be rocket science at this point, can they?) One of the other reviews noted that the case was metal, not plastic. In my situation, that was a positive thing. I wanted to make sure the device was solidly built. After 6 months I'm happy to report that after plugging the USB into my TiVo for power, I now have 4 devices (TiVo, PS3, Mac mini, Roku) all working. Switch off and it works fine. If you're looking to convert your home theater entertainment center to a wired connection but don't want to run a lot of cables or add another power supply to your mix, this is a great solution. My only regret is that I didn't get a version with a few extra ports in case I added more items to my setup.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Almost everything is there
