I've been using this brand for 5 years, now. I use this to hold down the sticky mats on job-sites. Would I use this on wood or any other surface, that is a finished surface, NO! I would get a tape that has a lot less adhesion or use some other method rather than chance ruining a finished surface. There are tapes with light adhesion, but this ain't it. For me, this is great stuff and I'll continue to buy it. I don't know why people are using this on surfaces they care about. This is a professional carpet tape meant to go between your carpet and the sub-flooring. This is not for fastening an area rug onto your Berber carpet or your maple flooring.
